Question: 24wks prego and need a root canal!. Is it safe to do so!?
Hey everyone,
I am 24wks pregnant with #3!.
I was told prior to becoming pregnant that I would maybe need a root canal done!. I was told to see a root canal specialist about it!. My concern is,if i should need x-rays of my teeth done, will that in any harm my unborn baby!? I would also like to know if the root canal procedure,if needed, would be in any way dangerouse to my baby!? I will consult with my Ob Dr!. but just curious as to how many women have had this type of thing done and what the results were!?

Thank you for your time and opinions!.
have a good one!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Get clearance from your OB for EVERYTHING before you let a dentist touch you!. My office is required by our dentist to get a signed letter from the OB authorizing any x-rays or treatment except for routine cleanings before he will see a pregnant pt!. X-rays are usually allowed after the first trimester if you are double shielded (2 lead aprons)!. Depending on your pregnancy your OB may or may not allow the use of certain anesthetics and you should avoid having anything with epinephrine if possible!. The bacteria released during a dental procedure can produce a small risk to your unborn child which is why women with gum disease have been known to give birth to low birth weight babies or premature births (the bacteria travels through the bloodstream and crosses the placenta and targets the growing child)!. Talk with your OB and dentist before pursuing any treatment and make sure they are communicating with each other!. Anesthetic is dangerous to developing babies and should not be used during the first trimester at all unless it is a life threatening emergency or infection and it should be used sparingly in the 2nd and 3rd trimesters!. I've had plenty of patients wait on root canals until they gave birth as long as they weren't in any pain from the tooth!. Again, it's really all up to your doctors and what they feel is best!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Short answer, it is probably OK,
Let them know, they will probably use an different anesthetic, but the third trimester is usually OK for this sort of thing!.!.!.and if you are at the specialist they have probably done this before too, and can give you the best answer!.!.!.!.!.
The root canal is treating the infected nerve of the tooth, and that isn't good for the baby either ! !.!.!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It should all be fine!. It is best when done the second trimester!. X-rays are fine as long as they put a apron on you!. It is best to put 2 lead aprons on you just in case!. This will prevent any extra rays from hitting the baby!. In general, dental x-rays release virtually no radiation!. It is about the same as a day at the beach if you have several done!. Yes, consult with your ob to be sure, but it is better than an infected tooth!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Get the root canal treatment done!. This is a required treatment, and not an elective treatment!. With regards to x-rays you have a lead apron over your thyroid down to your thighs while in the x-ray chair!. The lead apron minimizes/blocks out the bulk of the x-rays!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

NINI,
IF YOU ARE ABLE TO WAIT UNTIL AFTER DELIVERY IT'S BEST, BUT IF THIS CANNOT WAIT A SPECIALIST SHOULD DO THE WORK FOR YOU!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

idk!.!.!.!.but i think u should also post this in the pregnancy sectionWww@Answer-Health@Com
