How many visits does it take to have a root canal and a crown done?!

Question: How many visits does it take to have a root canal and a crown done!?
After five years of no insurance, I finally was able to go to the dentist in October!.
The dentist tells me I need a new crown on a back molar, since I am double insuranced, there will be no out of pocket cost!. Rather than pulling it , I said ok!.
I go in for the first visit and she says "you need a root canal too!."
Her billing lady checks and says "your fine, both insurances will cover it and you will still be under your yearly maximum!."
The week before I go in for my third visit for this root canal, I find out that my primary insurance will not cover the crown for another six months, and I will have to pay over 500 out of pocket!.
I am fitted with a temporary that cuts into my gums and causes extreme pain!. I end up popping it off and the pain went away!.
Fast forward six months, and I went in today thinking this will be my fifth and final visit, and after being in the chair 3 HOURS, find out that I have to come back again!.
Is this experience normal!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Assuming you did not have an infection in the tooth, a root canal is one or two visits and the crown is two!. There could be some other stuff going on such as peridontal disease, but they should tell you about that!. And, a temporary should not cause problems if done correctly!. I'd get another opinion, even if you had to pay a few bucks to do it!. good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com

Your tardiness in finishing your dental work has probably caused a problem with the fit and finish of the crown you had done 6 months ago!. This is not extraordinary, long periods of time between treatment severly complicate that treatment!. You should be happy the dentist is not charging you more for the service!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Everyone's teeth are different!. Everyone's tooth nerves are different!. Some are simple, some are complex!. It's hard to kill the nerve in a tooth, which is what a root canal does!. If you trust your dentist, stick with him/her!. It's a delicate process and worth the difficulty, if you need one!. Tough it out!. It's not an exact science, killing the nerves in teeth!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

About 2, 3 at the most!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

well normally it should only take 3 visits

1) the root canal done one visit
2) this is done a day later preparing the tooth for the crown and taking the impression
3) then the impression is taken to the lab and it could be at least 2 weeks before you get you permanent crown!.

and if the temporary crown bug u take it off you should have no pain if you got a root canal done

hope i can help but that isnt normal 5 visitWww@Answer-Health@Com

It's not normal to have THAT many visits!.!. but it's not cheap!. I had to get one done before!.!. and it didn't hurt!.!. most people say that it's painfull!.!. but its not at all i sat there not feeling a thing!. I did have to wear a temp!. tooth and yeah i could pop it out to but it shouldn't be causing you pain like that!.!.!. my dentist asked me if it was bothering me and it did at first so he took his tool and fixed it so it wouldn't bother me!.!.
And if you popped it off and can still push it down in there without a problem its too tight!. i popped mine out and i called my dentist and he said to use TOOTH PASTE to keep it down until my crown was ready!.!. but you shouldn't be waiting for your crown for more than!.!.!. a week at max!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No!. Well, at least this is not what I went through!.

1) Visit to dentist to see what the problem was and referral to endodontist
2) Visit to endodontist (root canal specialist) for x-rays and plan
3) Vist to endodontist for root canal
4) Visit to regular dentist for fitting of temp crown, taking molds, x-rays, etc!.
5) Visit to regular dentist for permanent crown

That was it!. No pain, no temperature sensitivity!. Voila!

Oh -- btw, it was about a year between the root canal and the temporary crown visits (hubby lost his job and we were conserving money at the time)!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
