We would rather that you hold up the hand opposite of where the dentist is workin!. Meaning, if he is working on the right side of you, then you should raise your left hand!.
Many patients have weird facial expressions while being worked on, but that doesn't mean that they are hurting!. Sometimes it is the smell or the taste!. That is why we don't stop just because the patient has a weird look on their face!.
Just raise your hand (Opposite of where he is working) and that should show him that you need him to stop!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I recommend that you discuss your concern with your dentist prior to your next dental treatment!. You can plan to have some prearranged signal to let them know if you are having pain, or even if you just need a break!.
Raising one of your hands is the most common signal, but your dentist may prefer something else!.
If they are rushed for time, some dentists may not want to stop!. So, if you give the signal and the dentist still doesn't stop, you may want to try a new dentist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The best thing to do would be to raise your hand opposite of the dentist!. Like if he is on your right side, raise your left hand!. He is focused on one tooth so he is not noticing if you are making a face!. At least if you raise your hand he can probably see it and his assistant will at least notice and can inform him!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Make a face (flinch) or raise your hand in a halting sign!.
Next time you go in, ask them if there is something you can do to tell them you are hurting!.!.!. then they will know what you mean for sure!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
