Going to a Dentist for a Second Opinion? Should I tell him what to look for?!

Question: Going to a Dentist for a Second Opinion!? Should I tell him what to look for!?
I went to a new dentist for an emergency checkup for an infection and he recommended taking my wisdom tooth out!. It's expensive and not currently covered by my insurance!.

Now the infection is gone; I want to get a second opinion now that i've got a bit more time!.

I'll be going to another dentist (the one I would have as my regular dentist) for a checkup/cleaning soon; should I let them see if they find the problem for themselves, or should I tell them about the infection and/or the other dentist's recommendation for wisdom tooth extraction!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

You can tell the dentist about the infection!. I like to add those type of notes in my patient's charts!. Your dentist will do a complete exam and may find the area of the infection during the exam!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Infection that comes and goes around wisdom teeth (usually partially erupted wisdom teeth) is called Pericoronitis!. It is caused by bacteria breaking down food debris in the deep pockets that are usually present with wisdom teeth!. That is why we, as dentists prefer to remove them, especially if they are symptomatic!. Just because you are not having symptoms now does not mean that you won't experience symptoms again in the future!. It also does not mean that the first dentist misdiagnosed your need for wisdom tooth extraction!. Having your third molars out also helps you keep your second molars cleaner (and you do need those!) Good luck!. ;-)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well you should tell them that way they can be looking for signs as they clean and plus if its kinda sensitive u don't want them to be "rough" !. If ur wisdom tooth is still growing out of the gum and its on the bottom its normal for that to get infected but it should be treated with meds if needed and possibly removed!. And if ur teeth r all out of the gum then take the past infection as a sign for it to be removed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, don't play games with the guy!. Tell him about the prior problem with the tooth and let him have a look!. I assume you go to this dentist because you like and trust him!.!.!.!.!.tell him about the tooth and see what he recommends!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Always tell them your concerns, they will have no issue with that!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
