Does getting your wisdom teeth pulled out excrutiatingly painful?!

Question: Does getting your wisdom teeth pulled out excrutiatingly painful!?
I mean, I know it will be painful, but I want to know exactly how much it will hurt!. I've never had surgery before, so what will they do before actual surgery starts!. Is there anything I need to know to do after surgery!? If there is pain, what can I do to ease it!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Do not eat anything 4 hrs prior to surgery!. You will be given plenty of local anesthetic which will make you very numb!. If you receive I!.V!. sedation even better because you will not even remember the procedure!. During the surgery you will not fill pain, however if your wisdom teeth are impacted you will hear noises of bone been drilled away!. NOT PAINFUL just annoying sounds!. Take your ipod it will help drown-out the noise!.
As soon as your finished take your pain medication!. Do not wait for anesthesia wear off!. Also very important NOT to rinse your mouth for 24 hrs after the procedure for this will cause you to loose the blood clots that your body will form to start the healing process, this is called a dry socket and it can be very painful and it takes almost 4 weeks for it to go away!.
After the 24 hrs, rinse with warm water as warm as to can tolerate with a table spoonful of salt 3-5 time a day!. For swelling if any!. Ice pack for 20mins every hour until swelling reduces!. Plan a diet of ice cream, mash potatoes, pasta, soups vegetable puree for the first week!. NO SMOKING either this will also cause a dry socket, which is excruciating GOOD LUCKWww@Answer-Health@Com

Echo, forget all the horror stories you hear about having wisdom teeth extracted - 9 1/2 out of 10 times there are never any problems!. Since you are somewhat apprehensive you may want to ask your doctor for medication to calm you before the surgery!. They will give you written instructions on what to do after surgery!. In short, they usually have you keep the gauze in until you get home!. If it continues bleeding (which is rare) you can place damp tea bag in the area - the tanic acid in the tea helps stop the bleeding!. Do not smoke, use a straw, spit, eat/drink anything very hot or very cold - stick w/warm/cool!. Usually Tylenol will be enough for any discomfort you may experience after!. The doctor may give you a script for something a little stronger, if you think you'll need!. You may want to wait before having it filled because the Tylenol may be enough, why waste your money!. Plan on taking it easy the day of and the day after, but after that you should be back to your normal schedule!. Oh yeh, don't brush the area and have someone drive you!. Good luck!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi Echo,

I had all 4 of my teeth out on Monday (it's now Wednesday) and I haven't even needed any pain medication since 7am Tuesday!. I was given a script for strong pain medication but I only needed Nurofen!.

I kept my cheeks iced for a few hours and am not even swollen!.

On the first day I ate home made custard and jelly!. I was allowed to have tepid pumpkin soup for dinner as my surgery was in the morning!.

Yesterday I progressed to eating scrambled eggs, two minute noodles and smoked salmon with mashed avocado!.

Today I went all out and moved on to Macaroni and Cheese (the one in the packet by Kraft)!.

So for the next few days I'll munch on soft food like this!.

I had a general anaesthetic and the most pain I have had from the whole operation is the bruised hand where the needle went in - they couldn't get into the vein and put it into my forearm instead!. I think it is funny that my most pain is on my hand!

Everyone says "Don't drink through a straw" and I'd agree with that!.!.except when the hospital gave me some apple juice after the surgery they gave it to me with a straw!.!.!.I had one suck from it and then remembered that I'm not meant to use a straw! So far, I don't seem to have suffered any ill effects from using a straw though - probably cause it was only one short drink!.

Hope it goes well for you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Brush your teeth really well before surgery!.
go in relaxed!.!.!. there is really nothing much to worry about!.
have lots of jello and pudding and soft foods like that!. Don't anticipate eating anything solid or small particled (like rice) for a good three weeks!. have lots of gauze on hand and change out frequently!. Use ice on your cheeks to keep the swelling down!. and make sure to get Anti-nausea meds from your Dr!. if you have never been on pain pills before!. take the anti-nausea meds BEFORE the pain pills lol!.
Take the time you have off with this surgery and relax, sleep, and expect funny stories from when you're knocked out!.
GOOD LUCK!
it's not that bad!.
just follow you're Dr!.'s directions!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I had 4 impacted wisdom teeth out on Monday and it killed!. I still can't talk or open my mouth all the way!. I've been living off of Gatorade and applesauce!. If you've never had surgery before you might be cold after you wake up and might want to have a sweatshirt for when you wake up!. Obviously don't drive to your appointment!. Use ice to reduce the swelling and the pressure!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They'll knock you out, so you won't feel anything or even know it was done until it's done!. You won't be able to eat anything solid for a little while, so plan on lots of soft foods (yogurt, smoothies, soups, etc!.) and DEFINITELY DO NOT DRINK ANYTHING FROM A STRAW for at least 3 days afterwards! Doing so can dislodge a clot in your extraction site and cause bleeding and infection!. Take whatever pain meds your dentist/oral surgeon gives you, but don't take them on an empty stomach - I made that mistake when I had mine taken out and there's nothing worse than a mouth packed full of gauze and having to throw up - bleck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

i had all four taken out at once!. I was wiped out for the rest of the day!. I was given good pain meds, so Iwasn't really in pain, just had to change out the cotton a lot throughout the night!.
Mine were pretty easy to come out, if yours has to be cut out, then you will be in more pain!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

AFTER SURGERY NEVER SMOKE AND/OR USE STRAWS!.
WHY NOT!?
THIS WILL MAKE YOU LOSE YOUR HEALING BLOOD CLOT AND CAUSE DRY SOCKET!. AND THIS PAIN IS EXCRUCIATIN!. IMMEADIATELY POST SURGERY USE COLD PACKS AND ADVIL TO AVOID SWELLING AND THIS WILL MAKE THE PAIN MINIMAL!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

LoL, I'm sure you'll be just fine!. No one has ever died from having their wisdom teeth pulled!. I'm sure it'll suck, getting teeth pulled always sucks, but you'll get through it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
