A dental spacer, or space maintainer, is used to retain room for a permanent tooth that will not erupt before the tooth or teeth behind it will shift forward!. It is important! If it is not used it can cause serious problems later on, including but not limited to remval of permanent teeth, longer time in orthodontia, and increased risk of cavities!.
