They want to cut my gums to show more teeth.....???/?!

Question: They want to cut my gums to show more teeth!.!.!.!.!.!?!?!?/!?
I have small teeth and a very gummy smile!.

Well first off, my orthodontist referred me to this doctor/dental guy and I had my thing cut that connected my upper gums to my upper lip, the thing that feels like a line/string!. Anyways, after I got that done, the guy said I should get my gums cut (after a month after I get my braces off) because I have a gummy with small teeth!. Btw, it would be for all my teeth!.

I have 3 questions!.
1!. Who is this doctor/dental guy, is he a gum specialist!?
2!. What is the procedure called where I get me gums cut!? I think it sounds like gauzevectomy, but that's not right!.
3!. I'm hesitant to do it because I don't know the side effects, how it will turn out, and if other people that did it liked it!. I know the procedure, Im worried about the after!. Does anyone know the side effects or any stories/pictures!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
1!. A Periodontist

2!. Gingivolpasty

3!. Research the doctor and ask for referrals!.Look at pictures of the docs work before and after!. I would recommend a periodontist that uses a laser to remove the tissue!. This procedure is less invasive!. You may be sore however you should have a beautiful result!.

P!.S!. The little string thingy procedure was a Frenectomy:)Www@Answer-Health@Com

He is called an oral surgeon!.!.!. my daughter had the same thing done ( not the gums but the skin connecting thetop lip) when she got her braces, she also had to have a permenant expander!.!.!.!. They know what they are doing, trust him!.!.!. Its worth it in the end!.!.!. GoodluckWww@Answer-Health@Com

I have a gummy smile to but i like it lol!. But im sure they no what theyre doing and there shouldnt be any side effects, its not like medicine its surgeryWww@Answer-Health@Com

1!. periodontist deal more with gums
2!. not sure, sorry
3!. dont know off first hand but theres nothing wrong with getting a second or even third opinion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

are you mad!?! cutting your gums!? that's insane! i get wanting to look better but dude, if you can still eat normally or it is not because you have some gum eating disease, DONT CUT!.

i do not know the reasons that are making you consider this procedure but God made us all beautiful in our own unique and special way!. i find someone comfortable with who they are much more approachable than someone constantly worried about their looks!.

so smile your biggest gummy smile when something makes you happy and laugh your loudest laugh showing all your tiny teeth when you hear a funny joke because your gummy smile makes someone very happy and its just that what makes people with or without gummy smiles so special!.

be grateful for what you have and make the most of it, i bet there are some people who dont even have teeth to show!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

i recently went to the dentist for two scheduled fillings in the front, and after looking at my mouth closely, he decided that in order for the fillings to fit better, he would trim my gum line back a little bit!. when i first heard this, i got nervous!.!.!.!.but there really wasn't anything to be nervous about!. i received a few injections of local anesthetic in the front, he gave me a pair of goggles to put on, and then he used a laser to trim the gums!. when the procedure was all said and done, my gums were a bit bruised, and he said I'd feel some tenderness after the numbness wore off (which a mild pain reliever like ibuprofen will take care of)!. i had no side effects other than a little bruising, which disappeared after a few days!. i had my fillings done the very same day!.!.!.and I'm more than thrilled with the results!. ultimately, it is your decision, but i personally felt it was worth it!. good luck with whatever you do!Www@Answer-Health@Com

1!. can't tell but I assume, he is probably a periodontist-you were correct in being suspicious, periodontists are very strange people
2!. the procedure is called a gingivectomy, although there are other names and dental codes to describe what they are wanting to do, this is basically what they are talking about, cutting off your gingiva, or gums, giving you a more toothy smile, and less 'gummy'!.
3!. look, no one can make that decision but you, it is painful, it takes a while to heal, and your teeth will be sensitive for several weeks to months, in addition, it is basically an aesthetic procedure that may have to be repeated, it is very technique sensitive, and you can wind up needing new gingival grafts in areas where the tissue does not react properly!. My advice, get an 2nd opinion, or 3rd or 4thWww@Answer-Health@Com
