Should you be able to feel your dental filling when you bite?!

Question: Should you be able to feel your dental filling when you bite!?
Today I went to the dentist to fill in a couple minor surface cavities!. When I bite down I can feel myself biting the filling on the right side!. I'm thinking the filling is raised too high!. It doesn't hurt, but it bothers me because when I bite all I can focus on is the filling and my teeth hitting it!. Is this normal!? I mean, I shouldn't even notice I have a filling in my tooth, much less bite down on it, right!? (Plus I don't feel the other filling i got today!.)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
No - you should not be focusing on one tooth!. After your dentist filled the tooth, he should have had you bite down on black or blue treated paper!. This leaves a mark which he then grinds off until there are no "high spots!." I suggest you call the dentist and ask when you can come in for a touch-up!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hey!

I just got a filling about 4 hours ago myself and I have the same problem! (I found your question when I was trying to figure it out for myself!.)

My old dentist used to always make sure that my bite was level (using that paper a person above mentioned) and this one didn't do it!. (Go figure, I went to a cheaper dentist because my insurance changed and he is NOT as good)

I'm going to give a few days myself and if its still bothering me I'm going to call my dentist!. He is a jerk and will tell me I have to wait a few days anyways so I guess the choice is out of my hands!.

Best of luck to ya!Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is normal, unless it is disrupting your bite!. It may be irritating and uncomfortable but the filling will eventually wear down as you eat!. The filling is often soft and moldable If it persists well past a week, I would contact your dentist!. I had this very thing occur, and almost considered switching dentists! I was told by the dentist that it would resolve after a week as I eat!. It actually went away within about four days!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

No, you shouldn't be noticing it that much!. You should call the dentist and ask about coming back in to have your bite checked!. They can just file down some of the filling!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Same thing happened to me!. I called the dentist office and they told me to come right in!. Turns out that the filling was raised to high just like you said!. It took him 10 seconds to grind it even with the bite!. I felt the difference immediately!. It wasn't just my imagination!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
