Question: Getting braces on tomorrow!.!.!.help!?
Tomorrow I'm getting my braces on, and I'm terrified!. Do you gag on the thing that keeps your mouth open!? I have a very active gag reflex and I threw up during the imprints!.!.!. I know that after its sore, but does it hurt getting them on!? How long does it take to get them put on!? Is it scary!?!? Please help me feel better, no mean answers!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Here are some tips for the big day! And no! Nothing is going in your throat! Just in the front of your teeth! Don't worry!
Getting your braces on doesn't hurt!. After getting them they will hurt!. Fallow these instructions and you will have No pain!
Getting Braces!.
Getting your braces on doesn't hurt! It is easy but here are a few tips!.
Bring chap stick!. And before they put your cheek spreaders on put a lot of chap stick on!. Believe me it will help!. And pick light bands for your first time like: Pink, Light Blue and Tooth Color!. You don't want anything too noticeable your first time with them!.
Pain Relief!.
Okay!. Before you get braces you have to get prepared!. Ask your parents or who ever to take you to the store!. There is this stuff called Ambesol Jr!. It will save your life! Just take a little bit and put it on your finger and rub it on your gums!. Count to 10 and the pain will be gone!. Also get stuff like Tylenol and other pain relief medicines!
Eating!.
Before you get braces eat as much as you can!
These are some food items you can eat like nothing with braces: Jello, Pudding, Ice Cream, Smoothies, Bananas, Yogurt, Ice's, eggs and any other soft things that you like!. Also my personal favorite food is Chicken Noodle Soup from Panera Bread Company!. Get it in a bread bowl!. It is so good and you don't even have to chew!. My mom always gets that for me after I get my braces tightened!
Brushing Your Teeth!.
Brushing your teeth with braces is not that hard!. You just have to make sure that you get all around your brackets!. Your Ortho will give you a little tooth brush that will easily fit between your wires and get those hard to reach places!.
FLOSSING!
Now flossing with braces is a different story!. Don't try to floss with regular floss because it isn't stiff!. You are going to have to have to thread your floss through your wire and then pull it through and then thread your floss through your wire and then pull it through!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!. This takes about 1 hour your first time but it will take you about 15 minutes if you get Crest Threader Floss!. It will save you life!.
If you fallow these tips and put me a best answer your braces journey will be so easy!.

I had braces on two seperate occassions!. Once in third grade and once in 7th grade!. When they put braces on, they do one area at a time, top row or bottom!. Really, if i remember correctly, you may not even have to have something hold open your mouth!. They also do one tooth at a time or a section of teeth and dry the glue with a UV light!.
You may have to have something hold open your mouth for the back caps they use, but I'm sure if you mention to your orthodontist or the assistant about any discomfort you may have, they can stop!. As for time, it could take about an hour or two, but for you, it'll fly by!. You'll be so focused on what's going on, you won't notice the time!.
The reason you threw up during the imprints was because the paste expands in your mouth!. I rememeber my imprints were really uncomfortable too!. During the application of your braces, you won't have anything that goes that far back in your mouth!. Worst thing that will happen is that the sides of your mouth, the corners, will chap or become painful, and your teeth will be painful!.
It doesn't hurt putting them on!. It's like putting stickers on your teeth!. They'll put some glue on your tooth, stick the brace on, and then dry it with the UV light or by air drying (which I doubt)!. They put the braces on first, and then the wire snaps onto each brace, connecting them all!. Wire changes are easy!. They just cut the wire and pull it out, and pop some more in!.
Take some ibuprofeun or advil before you go, that way, when the braces are finally on, the meds will already be working!. Eat some soft food, you don't have to go all yogurt and soup, but just something easy on your mouth until you get used to your new hardware!.

You probably won't gag on the things that keep your mouth open because they don't go in far!. It doesn't hurt at all getting them on unless you have a toothache!. It takes about 45-90 minutes depending on your cooperation with the doctor!. It is actually pretty easy!. Take ibuprofen if it hurts!. The only thing is that you might get a few mouth sores, which can be treated with Orajel!. After a few weeks getting them on, it is like they are not even there!. Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
Its not scary at all! I have had them on twice my first time i got them on when i was 6!. Gagging depends on the person you are and how you react when the imprints are being taken!. All the really do, well at my place, is the put the brackets on with some sort of glue!. It takes only about 45 mins to and hour to put them on after words it will be sore and your gums may be a little swollen!. Hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com
Did you already do the mold!? If so the worst part is over!. I almost tossed it when they made a mold of my teeth!. It is pretty painful for the first few days!. You won't be able to eat anything solid!. I'd recommend oatmeal for awhile!. I had braces for only 2 years!. Each month I'd have them tightenend!. You get used to it after awhile!. It's not scary at all!. If a little kid can handle it, then I'm sure you'll be fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
