Hi there! My name is Angela and I am an Intern Dentist!.
Sweetie, you have nothing to be afraid of! The sound of Extraction sounds scary to many people, however it always suprises everyone when its over!. They always say-"It wasn't as bad as I thought"!!! The most important thing for you to do is to be Calm and relaxed! When you are tense, all the mucles and nerves in your body stiffen up, making the extraction difficult!. If you feel that you cannot relax, ask your dentist/ oral surgeon to prescribe to you some muscle relaxers!. This way, you take them at least one hour before your appt, and you wont even care about whats going to happen next! It does'nt hurt to ask! You wont feel a thing, I promise! all you will feel is pulling and tugging! No pain!.
Another important thing is to be sure and follow your post op care instructions!. This is VERY important! The first 7-10 days are very critical in your healing process and you do NOT want to end up with a "Dry Socket"!! (This is when the blood clot dislodges leaving the nerve and bone exposed, causing excrusiating pain!!) Here are some tips to prevent this!.!.
1!. Do NOT "\spit, drink through a straw, or smoke! any type of "sucking motion" will cause the clot to dislodge!!! Be very careful!!
2!. Rinse your mouth with "salt water"!. This will help prevent infection by killing bacteria!. Rinse in the morning, after meals and at bedtime! Be careful when rinsing!. Do it gently, and do not spit the water out, Hold your head down over the sink and let the water run out by itself!. It sounds ikky but it helps!!(1tsp of salt per 1cup of water!)
3!.Take your prescribed medication as directed! Use the pain killer only when needed!. Remember, narcotic pain relievers can be addicting, so be careful!. I suggest using motrin and or advil!. These are anti-inflammatory's and work well in helping not only pain but swelling and inflammation as well!
4!. Get plenty of rest, and drink plenty of fluids!. Stay away from acidic drinks or foods, as these can cause irratation to the extraction site!. Eat soft foods such as yogurt, cooked vegtables, baked fish, mashed potatos, ect!.!.!. at least for the first 3 days!.
5!. If you experiance any unusual symptoms such as increasing pain, or swelling, or a foul taste in your mouth, call your surgeon immeadiately! do NOT wait!! These could be signs of an infection!.
If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to contact me via e-mail as I will be happy to help!!
Good Luck!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

First of all - don't be scared!
You're going to stress and work yourself out over something so menial!.

I've gotten six teeth taken out at once, and it's seriously so easy!. They knock you out, pull 'em out, and you wake up all loopy!.

I took my boyfriend to get his taken out, and this is what went down:

1!. We went into the office, the doctor took x-rays, because my boyfriend's teeth were really bad!. We watched a video about the pros and cons of getting wisdom teeth taken out, and the doctor reassured us that there wouldn't be any nerve damage, and how easy/difficult the procedure would be!.

2!. They tell you to go to the bathroom, because some people have peed themselves when they were knocked out (haha!.!.!.)!.

3!. They take you in the "operating room" (Nick had a view of a lake with litttle duckies), stick an IV into your right arm (this is the stuff that'll knock you out), but a little oxygenesque mask on (but it's not a mask, it just rests under your nostrils), and you black out!.

4!. You wake up in a "resting room" where your mom, dad, or whoever will be there with you!. You'll feel drunk/high/loopy, and won't have much control of yourself!. You'll have an ice pack strapped onto your cheeks, and you probably won't remember any of the drive home!.

5!. Pain will kick in after the novicane (stuff that numbs you, and makes your nose, mouth, and cheeks feel like they've fallen asleep), but you'll probably be prescribed some heavy duty painkillers which will take care of that!.

I recommend having lots of soft foods on hand, because you're not going to want to chew!. Yogurt, grits, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, jello, and ice cream are all great choices!.

I just got mine out last week and it was prefectly fine!. Don't be scared and don't listen to what your friends say about their experiences because everyone's experience is different!. Some of my friends, for instance, got sick a lot and wasn't able to eat until two weeks later but another one of my friends was fine after 3 days!.
I was really swollen and it took me about a week to be able to eat normal again!. Make sure you take your pills and you should put ice packs on the sides of your mouth because it helps with the swelling and it numbs the pain!. For about a week, I had eggs, jello, soup, and ice cream!. But don't eat anything extremely hot or extremely cold for the first two days or so!. Make sure you don't suck on anything or spit or anything like that!.

Hope this helped! I was scared too, but everything was fine!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is going to sound crazy, but it will help!. Be sure to ask your doctor if they have anything to clean out the holes left in your mouth from the wisdom teeth!. Clean out the holes with a salt water solution every time after you eat, otherwise they will get filled up and hurt!.

When I got my wisdom teeth out, the doctor gave me a little plastic syringe things with a curved platic tip to fill with salt water and squirt into the wholes to make sure no food got stuck there!. It worked great!. When my husband got his wisdom teeth out, they didn't give him anything like that!. After a couple meals, his mouth hurt because he had food stuck in those holes!. We went to the dollar store and bought a small turkey baster!. Used that with salt water to rinse out the holes and he felt a lot better!. It was really gross to see all the chewed food coming out, but it made him feel better!.

Don't worry, a few days after it is done, you will feel back to normal!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

first of all relax!. being nervous predisposes to your body reacting negatively to stress of the extraction!.
Remember extraction is something every dentist does a lot of times so they know what they are doing, its a daily job for them!.
modern anesthetics are wonderful, u will not feel anything!. u may get some swelling later on and may need to avoid driving etc but thats about it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Don't worry about it!.

When I asked my coworkers their experiences with having their wisdoms pulled!.!.!. all I heard were stories of agony!.!.!. so I stocked up on soft foods and braced myself mentally!.

After I had the procedure done!.!.!. other than slight discomfort I had no problems or pains at all!. I didn't even need any of the pain killers that were prescribed!.

I even went to a coworkers wedding a few days later and ate with no problems!.

Now I wonder if my coworkers were exaggerating the pain as a joke or they're a bunch of little girls!. Personally, I think little girls!. lolWww@Answer-Health@Com

get ice bags and ice your jaws for the rest of the day to keep the swelling down!. also liquids only for the first 24 hours and lots of them to stop any possibility of dry sockets
