For some patients hard liquor is a sort of traditional medicine!. My observation is that in most cases it is not alcoholism that prompts the question!. It is the delusion that alcohol provides effective pain-relief rather than raising the blood pressure and increasing bleeding tendency!.

Yet, if patients were rational they would floss, brush and get their teeth regularly cleaned by a hygienist!. Fortunately this is not the case and I can go on as a dentist!. ;--)Www@Answer-Health@Com

I think that the answer to your question is a relatively simple one!. People who make an issue out of the time span between a tooth extraction and when they can resume drinking alcohol is based, I suspect, on their feeling that somehow their importance in life is bonded with being able to drink with friends!.Not being able to drink with them may very well make them feel as though they are not as socially acceptable as they otherwise would be!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, I guess they are probably young males, who's life centers on alcohol!. I too don't get it!. Both of my adult sons have had their wisdom teeth removed and were not concerned about when they could drink alcohol!. They were more concerned about when they could talk properly!. BUT they have friends who were more concerned about drinking alcohol!. What is it with the young people today!. All they want to do on their days off is drink!. At least my guys want to go fishing, camping and just hanging out with friends!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, I don't work in an Oral Surgeon's office, but I have never been asked that question when I've spoken to patients about wisdom tooth removal!. People who smoke ask when they can resume smoking!.!.!.I suspect that, as some posters have stated, that either they are alcoholics, they want the extra "high" from the pain killers + alcohol, or they are major wimps and they want to "check out" during the recovery process!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Me either, since that is the last thing they will think about after having it done!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
