Should I have the root canal or pull the tooth?!

Question: Should I have the root canal or pull the tooth!?
My husband has been told he needs at least one if not two root canals!. He tried the oral sedative, and that didn't work because he has a bad gag reflex!. So, he's going to have to be put under general anesthesia to have the work done!.

The question is whether to pull it or do the root canal(s)!. The problems are with 12-year molars!. The root canals are going to cost about $5k!. Pulling it will cost less than $500!. Right now he's scheduled for a root canal in two months!. He's 26!.

Any experiences or suggestions!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

I am sorry to hear about this awful dilemma you guys are facing!. I personally would pull the tooth but I was told that it is always better to try to save the tooth if at all possible!. Since your husband is an adult he will never get that tooth back once it is gone!.
But that's just my opinion!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is better to save parts of the tooth and get a root canal!. That way he'll have a crown that will look like a real teeth!. Pulling the tooth out should be the last option to consider!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I seriously suggest having them pulled, I mean they are just molars that nobody sees so why not save yourself some money!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is a tough choice!. It is easier to have teeth extracted as far as finance is concerned, but in a long run it might cost more!. The best option of replacing a missing tooth is to have an implant!. Implant will cost about $3000 (implant and crown) per tooth depending on where you live!. Other options: 1) Bridge if he has his third molars but that will cost equivalent to three crowns, 2) Removable Partial denture - not as good as if you had your own teeth, 3) do nothing - but reduce in function (chewing) and shifting of teeth!.

As a dentist, I tell my patients to keep their own teeth as long as possible!. However, if I feel the prognosis of the tooth is poor even with root canal, I have them use the money towards implant!.

Hope the above gives a little more insight to help in deciding!. His dentist should go over every options (with finance) available!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
