I wear Damon braces - they're pretty much the same as other (conventional) braces, in terms of pain etc!. When you get them on, they'll hurt for a few days (a week max) - so be prepared to need painkillers and soft foods for a few days!.

The benefits of them are that they work slightly faster than traditional braces (since there is less friction), and you don't need as many appointments!.

To put them on, the orthodontist will probably pop a little mouth-opener in, then polish your teeth!. He/she then applies what is effectively a glue!. They position each bracket on your teeth, then use a blue light to set the glue so that the brackets are fixed to your teeth!. Damon braces have a little slot in them with a gate that can be opened and closed by the orthodontist - all the gates will be open at first, but the orthodontist will close them after positioning the wire in the slots!. Finally, they trim the wire at the back so it doesn't jab your cheeks!. The whole thing took about 15 minutes for me!

They might put only the top ones on at first, or do both top and bottom at the same appointment!. After about a week you're completely used to them, but they might feel bulky and strange at first!. Also, you might want to start carrying a toothbrush and a mirror with you wherever you go - as with all braces, you're prone to getting food stuck between your teeth and around the metal, so it's good if you're prepared to clean it out!

All the best with your appointment :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
