How can I talk to my parents? And have them actually listen?!

Question: How can I talk to my parents!? And have them actually listen!?
Okay, the dentist has always been a thing I hated!. I'm kinda uncomfortable just typing about it!. Every time I go something bad happens!. Anyway, my teeth aren't the straightest in the world!. I have a space on my top row, and there's a tooth on the bottom row that's completely turned around! The rest are great, it's just those two!. I want to get Invisalign(sp) I'm 15 and I'm old enough right!? How expensive is it!? Can you tell me some more on how it works or how I would get started!? I really don't want painful braces! And I'm afraid to talk to my parents about it! If I even say the word 'tooth' around them they rush me off to the dentist without even listening to me and have something else painful done to me! And my Dad thinks it's a huge joke! How can I make them listen to what I have to say!?!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your best bet is to approach them as you have us!. Show them that you have done your research, print out information, make notes and organize your 'pitch' to them!. They will be impressed with your organization and be more likely to take you seriously!. Just say, first and foremost - I am NOT in any pain!. Secondly, I have a lot of anxiety about getting work done on my teeth (totally common, this is why they have sedation dentistry - lots of people freak out about it)!. Tell them you want to correct your smile as you feel it will improve your self image and the way the world sees you!. Then bust out all your information on Invisalign!. Show them price comparisons, how long the treatment lasts, how many visits, where you can get them!. Be prepared - approach them as a responsible young adult - not a whiny little kid with no information!. Good luck - nice teeth are the most important facial feature!Www@Answer-Health@Com

very common to have a dental phobia!. many dentists will suggest a ortho referral in their periodic exam (when you have your teeth cleaned) let your dentist know you are interested he will probably suggest a consultation for ortho!.
many ortho offices also give free consultations for treatment!.
also not everyone is a candidate for invisaline, so you'll need to know if you are a candidate i think your bite has to be where they want it first!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

"Mom, Dad, I'm pregnant!.!.!. But seriously, we need to talk about my teeth!."Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you figure out a way to have your parents listen to you, please, let me know because in my 37 years of life I still haven't found a way to have my parents realise that no, they do NOT "know better"!.

From what you said (the tooth completely turned around) you might not be a candidate for Invisalign!.!.!.!. sorry!.

I was dental phobic!.!.!. so I understand your discomfort!. You might need to change dentist if you aren't ok with the one you have!.

Tell your parents that you are phobic to begin with, and tell your dad to shut up and listen if he starts joking around!. Adults often think they know better than you how you feel, and that's not the case!. They might know how to troubleshoot your problems though, so tell them that you want them to listen first otherwise they won't be able to guide you!.!.!. that maybe will catch their attention!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
