Answers:
1!. No!. When I got it adjusted for the first time, my jaw was a little bit achy, but it doesn't hurt!. It's a little uncomfortable when you first get it though!.
2!. Mine hasn't broken at all yet *knocks on wood* but if yours does break, go back to the orthodontist to get it fixed!. They came out with a new, better Herbst appliance which is the one I have, and you'll probably get it too, and it doesn't break as easily as the original Herbst appliance!. Plus, it's not as bulky as the old ones!.
3!. It isn't a lot tougher to clean!. Usually I just spend an extra minute or two brushing, and toothpicks are helpful when I get something stuck in a spot that my toothbrush can't get!. Sometimes food gets stuck in the roof of my mouth (there's a small metal piece on the back of your palette, it's not a palette expander, though!. I've already had one of those, and this is isn't as bad!.) and I usually can work it out with my tongue!. If not, though, I just brush it out with my toothbrush!. I went to the dentist recently, and the dentist said I did a great job cleaning it!. :-)

It looks bad, but really, it's not as awful as it looks! It's a bit of a mouthful when you first get it, but that quickly goes away!. Trust me, I'm a big baby when it comes to uncomfortable things, and this isn't bad at all, definitely worth it when I have a beautiful smile at the end!.

Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
