hey, i had braces from the age of 9 - 12!. don't quote me on this, but i had to wear the rubber bands too and i think they basically help with pulling your teeth into the right place!. they can be really annoying, they flick off, break, you swallow them - but eventually you'll get the hang of them!. they're so tiny and come in different colours if you want!. trust me, you should wear them if you want your braces to get your teeth into place quicker !.!.!. which means getting braces off quicker (that's how i always tried to deal with it!)!. your orthodontist will tell you how/when/for how long!. there won't be anything on your gums, but just be careful in your first few weeks cos you might cut the inside of your cheek on the edge of the braces, sometimes they're really sharp! you might experience some slight pain/aching when you have the bands on cos your teeth are slowly being moved !.!.!. this is all normal pain, its not excruciating but yes, you just have to deal with it if you want nice teeth!! hope this helps you !.!.!.!. ask me anything else if you need :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Rubberbands (if you are referring to the ones that attach the top and bottom sets of teeth) are to align the bite!. How long you need to wear them depends on how out of place your alignment is, if at all!. For the gums, nothing needs to be put on them!. The process of receiving braces was not painful for me as far as I remember (about 3 or 4 years ago)!. Your teeth just get sore for a while!. If you receive your braces in sections (say the top 4 first like me), it will probably irritate the skin in front of your teeth!. The orthodontist may suggest wax, but I advise against it because it is a burden to remove!. Besides, you're better off getting used to the rubbing of the skin; it becomes less sensitive!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hey I'm 15 and I've had braces for almost 3 years now and no they don't put anything in your gums!. A silver ring type thing goes around your last teeth in the back ( the reason why they put chunks of rubber in your mouth on the back teeth) so that it can have a wire connected to it followed by some brackets that go on the top of your teeth!. You don't get numbed but don't worry it doesn't hurt as bad as you think!. And yes you'll have to wear rubber bands on them but only for the amount of time that you have braces because the wire won't stay inside the brackets if you don't!. The bands that go from top to bottom: I don't know if you'll have to get those but you won't get the top to bottom ones until the last few months of having braces!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If you are talking about the rubber bands that go between the top and bottom rows of your teeth, they are used for over/under bite!. When your top set of teeth don't sit right on your jaw, these are used to move them to their proper position!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

You will get shots to numb the pain, the rubber mold is the worst though!. The rubber bands may be a year or so unless you get the clear braces!. Your dentist can tell you what to expect!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

get clear braces or at least clear rubberbands!. Color ones draw unneeded attention!.

Good luck with them!.!.

Floss a lot!.!.!. brush a lot!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
