Braces: white spots when removed?!

Question: Braces: white spots when removed!?
I have braces, and I'm worried that when I get them taken off, I will have white spots where my braces used to be!. Has anyone had this happen to them!? And if so, how did they get rid of them!? I take very good of my teeth, but last year I was a little careless, so now I'm worried!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The reason those white spots appear is NOT from staining or other reasons people have suggested!. This is called "decalcification" and is basically the very very beginning stages of decay, or cavities!. What happens is, the braces are a very good place for bacteria (plaque) in your mouth to hang out!. If they are not cleaned well enough, they begin to demineralize the surface of your teeth!. This is referred to as "white spot lesions" in the dental world!.

You can help prevent this from happening in 4 ways:
1!. The use of Fluoride!. Use a toothpaste that contains Fluoride, as well as a fluoride rinse such as "Act"!.
2!. Be sure you are brushing at least twice a day!. The most important time for you to brush will be at night, so don't skip before you go to sleep!. This is because while you sleep, the bacteria will just sit on your teeth and have a field day!.
3!. Clean your braces!! In addition to brushing your teeth, you can use a device called a "proxy brush" to get between the wires!. It is shaped almost like a little christmas tree, and can be inserted into the openings between your wires to be sure you are removing all of the plaque on your teeth and braces!.
4!. Be sure to visit your hygienist regularly! Even the best home care cannot come close to the services your hygienist will provide!.

Good luck :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

So!.!.!.white spots are areas of demineralization!.!.!.it's where the calcium and fluoride are removed from your teeth and in turn leaves white areas of decay!.!.!.these areas can re-mineralize and become whole again, just like you can fix little cavities by having great oral hygiene and fluoride habits!. Last year shouldn't matter THAT much in your braces!. You should be using a Fluoride toothpaste, rinsing with a fluoride rinse and drinking low sugar beverages frequently (preferably tap water, if it has fluoride in it!.!.!.most well waters may not have fluoride in it, so be sure to get it tested to make sure it has adequate amounts to be beneficial) If you have already had "white spots" there isn't much you can do about it, the damage is done!.!.!.the white spots are exactly what I described above, and will be permanent for the most part!. If you take good care of your teeth, and brush regularly, and have great fluoride exposure, you should be safe from "white spots" Good Luck!!!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Trust me it will be fine!. I had braces and i was very careless with my teeth, i barely brushed or flossed my teeth!. When i got them off i was worried too, but they take off a layer of teeth when they take of the brace because they use a glue substance that they have to get off, so in the end its almost like they whiten your teeth!. Also, if you take good care of your teeth now i think that your mouth will have greatly improved and your teeth can change back to normal just like when in the winter your skin becomes white, and when it sees the sun it tans right up!. Hope everything turns out ok!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yeah, that's a possibility!. There may be nothing you can do unless you're willing to splurge on a more expensive whitener like GoSmile, which starts around $60!. (I say more expensive because the ones sold in drugstores aren't proven to even out the color)

Be careful, though - whiteners aren't recommended for people with sensitive teeth!. I don't consider my teeth sensitive and most whiteners still stung like you would not believe!. :(Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well when I got my braces taken off last summer I freaked out because I had been using a whitening tooth paste, so I was worried that the tooth covered by the bracket would be dingier than the surrounding tooth, but it turned out okay!. If I used the whitening tooth paste for a year and a half and my teeth were all one color, I'm sure you'll be fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

oh dont worry
as long as you brush almost everyday youll be fine!. once in a while i would be at a sleepover and forget to brush mine or something, actually that would happen a lot and when i got mine off i didnt have any!. just make sure you brush your teeth when you can and you should be fine!. i was worried too that id have those but mine came out fine!!!!!!!!

hope that helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

when you get your braces off the orthodontist usually has to take off the glue on your teeth!. to do this they have to scrape the top part or layer of your teeth!. my friend had her braces on for 4 years and they look fine!. as long as you have been brushing your teeth i think that you will be fine!. =DWww@Answer-Health@Com

If it DOES happen, you can always professionally bleach your teeth!.

But all im saying is I hardly took care of my teeth and there were no white spots!.
if the ortho sees anything wrong he WILL tell you and you'll be able to fix things up before they get removed!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

baking soda and a little peroxide to create a paste and put it on your tooth brush and brush with it spit don't swallow of course wit will help with infections and whiten your teeth, i had the same problem because of being bad on taking care of my teeth when i had bracesWww@Answer-Health@Com

I do not think you'll get spots on them when you get them removed!. But if you do you can have the dentist remove them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

They will fade but the only way to get rid of them is covering them with veneers or bonding!. They will fade though so they will probably not be noticable!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
