First of all , you will have to accept my tons and tons of congrats for getting the piercing out !!!.!.!.!.!.yes, it is dangerous!. !!
Regarding gum wearing away ( we call it "gum recession"), much depends upon the duration of the irritant that caused this condition, your age and state of your gum health!. I feel there is actually not much need of concern!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.!.just take it easy!.!.!.!.!.once the piercing is out, just wait for a couple of days and then just get a check-up done of your teeth and gums who would advise you about the need of any treatment, if at all required!.
But, I must tell you and reassure you that such things are quite reversible and once the irritant( piercing , in your case!) is out, your gums are quite likely to get back to normal!.
