They might, some hospitals (although very few) have on call emergency dentists!. All the ER can do is give him something for the pain and send him on his merry way!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I would go to the emergency room!. It's only going to get worse!. If it is infected, and it sounds like it is, they will put him on antibiotics!. They will most likely tell him to go to his dentist though to take care of the actual problem causing the infection!.

He is probably, at some point, going to have to take time off work!. If he lets it go, it will get to the point of where he won't be able to stand the pain and he will end up taking off anyway!.

Also, an infected tooth is not good for the rest of your body!. Have him do what he needs to do to get someone to look at it!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Some ER's do have a dentist on duty or will give you something to help with the pain until you contact a oral dentist!.
This dentist is a specialist in teeth under the gums called impacted!. Call someone at once and tell the doctor in the OR when your appointment is so he can possibly get you in early through a phone call!. It is also best to have an appointment as the doctor won't think you are drug hunting!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
