New Cavity Filling - It hurts to chew... is this okay?!

Question: New Cavity Filling - It hurts to chew!.!.!. is this okay!?
I just got a cavity filling in my molar this morning!. I had a little something to eat (softish) about an hour or so after the filling, and it was okay!. But just now I tried to eat popcorn and when I bite down too hard, the tooth that has the filling is painful!. This is my first cavity and the Doctor said it was small!. It's not excruciating pain, but it's still very bothersome!. Is it normal to have this sharp sore pain after a filling!? Will it go away after a few days or is this something I need to get checked out!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
What type of filling did you get, amalgam, metal, or porcelain!?

I found out after having several porcelain fillings without a problem, the first filling that I had to pay for (after moving out of my parents' and getting my own insurance) that I am allergic to amalgam and metal fillings!. The first day I didn't notice because of the pain meds, but when I went to brush or eat after that first day, it hurt something terrible!. after a month of pain brushing my teeth one night the filling came out!.

The dentist I had gotten the filling from tried to tell me I needed a root canal!.!.!.well, I got a second opinion and found out I was allergic and required porcelain fillings from now on!. I had it replaced with porcelain and haven't had a problem since!.

Good luck to you!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sensitivity is normal following a filling and it should go away within a couple of weeks!. It might be sensitive to hot, cold, and even pressure for a little while too!. There was physical trauma to the tooth done, so it makes sense as to why the tooth might be responding this way right now!.

Right now, try eating on the other side!. Brush and floss like normal!. If the pain continues after about 2 weeks, then go back in and have the filling checked!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I say that you wait it out!. It is completely normal for a tooth to be sore for even a couple days after you get a filling!. Run to the store (If you can of course) and buy some Orajel!. Place it on the tooth that is aching, and POOF! Your pain is gone!. Try some of that if your pain doesn't go away!. Overall, it's normal- It's just a matter if you want to stand the pain or not ;)

no its not normal to feel pain after filling, if the pain is as short as u relief ur bite, most probably that there is a high piece in the filling that touches opposing teeth before the whole set of teeth, its simple to grind this spot, its simply identified, if the pain lasts for more than 15 min, the tooth pulp (nerve) may be affected, root canal may be needed, another reason if minute invisible crack in the toothWww@Answer-Health@Com

Yes, it is normal!. It should go away after three days if it doesn't go away then get it checked out!. Do not eat popcorn eat soft foods!. No sodas!. Rinse with salt and water!. It will help with the pain!. Eat on the side in which you did not get the filling!.

it is normal!. pain should subside after the first 48 hours with exception to hot/cold sensitivity which may last up to a month!. try chewing with the side of your mouth that is cavity free!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
