Suggestions for an essay topic? (Dental Hygiene School)?!
Question: Suggestions for an essay topic!? (Dental Hygiene School)!?
I'm totally stuck! I have to write a simple 10 page essay related somehow to Dental Hygiene for Technical Communications class and I can't pick a topic! The research should be credible, but the objective is mainly to 'Communicate' in a scientific paper format, so it needn't be groundbreaking information!.
I was thinking about doing it on OTC Hygiene products that claim to have some benefit, like 'whitening gum' or Scope white!. I don't even like this idea, but I can't think of another!.
The fun part will be the presentation; I have to present the paper to my class in a PP Presentation with handouts, and we are responsible for having the class participate!. I was thinking if I did the OH aids I could have a quiz with the products as prizes!.

Here are a few ideas--
-How to instill good OH habits in children at an early age-You could present with educational aides like large models, creative demos, etc!. As prizes, you could give stickers or anything fun and kid-like from the dollar store!. Or even fun looking toothbrushes and flossers!.
-Is amalgam hazardous to health!? This is an ongoing topic with LOTS of information, and you could talk about the potential hazards (if there are any) to the office staff!. This one isn't as creative, but would give you lots of information to present and is very relevant!.
-OH issues in the elderly and/or physically disabled-You could start by discussing the obstacles they face and methods you could suggest to help them overcome them!. You could still use your idea of giving products or OH aides as prizes here!
-At what age should a child first visit the dentist/managing the behaviour of young kids in the office!. If you can recruit some of your classmates you could embed a video clip into your powerpoint presentation of a short skit demonstrating some kind of behaviour!. This would probably get a few laughs and keep your presentation interesting!.
-The link between periodontal disease and systemic heath problems-You could do an overview, or even just pick one like heart disease or low birthweight, etc!. You could probably find lots of neat pictures for this and your science would definitely be there!.
-Infection control practices and risks in the dental setting-You could give those stuffed microbes as prizes, or those little bottles of Purell!
