What is a retainer? Why is it used?!

Orthodontic retainers are custom-made devices, made usually of wires or clear plastic, that hold teeth in position after surgery or any method of closing spaces between teeth!. They are most often used before or after dental braces to hold teeth in position while assisting the adjustment of the surrounding gums to the changes in bone!. Most patients are required to wear their retainer(s) every night at first, with many also having to wear them during the day!. A retainer is used after the removal of braces to keep your teeth in formation and not start shifting!. Usually you wear these at night and remove them in the daytime!. You wear these after braces removal depending of the time frame that your orthodontist recommends for you!. Everyone is different so it's important to listen to him/her!. Basically since your teeth have been so long by being kept in braces, holding them into place!.!.!. a retainer is used to keep the formation of the teeth securely and in the correct place!.
