Dry sockets and smoking?!

Question: Dry sockets and smoking!?
I've been reading about wisdom teeth and their removal!. One of the post-operation problems that can happen to people is a "dry socket" or alveolar osteitis, which is caused by damaged blood clots where the tooth was removed!. I read a few places that smoking can cause these!. My question is, are these caused by tobacco smoke or any type of smoke!? And how much/often would someone have to smoke for this to happen!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
Dry sockets are caused by the sucking action in the mouth!. Tobacco has nothing to do with it!. When you smoke a cigarette there is a sucking action!. You can also get a dry socket from sucking out of straws, spitting, drinking carbonated beverages!. This is not life threatening but it is painful, this feels like the worst toothache in your life where the tooth was removed and also at time bleeding can continue!. This pain usually does not accure until 48 to 72 hours after surgery!. Left alone it can go away on its own, but this is painful!. The doctor would place a medicated dressing in the sockets and you usually feel better within 5-10 minutes, this stuff smells and taste nnasty but you won't care!. By the way, dry sockets are only happen to the lower teeth, the upper teeth usually never have a problem!.

Any person that had ttheirwisdom teeth taken out is decided to smoke is gguaranteedto have a dry socket!. So please dont!Www@Answer-Health@Com

This is most common with tobacco use being either cigarettes or dipping!. However, smoking anything could result in the same!. The smoke dries out your socket/ blood clot which can cause this!. The tobacco is worse b/c it not only dries out the area it also causes impaired healing/ immune system response!. Carbonated beverages and spitting can also cause this!. Any amount of smoking/ tobacco use can cause this, especially if in the first 48 hours!. Any amount of smoking/ tobacco during even the first week could greatly reduce healing and cause this though!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Actually, the biggest reason that smoking causes dry sockets is because the sucking action in the cigarette (or a drinking straw) sucks the blood clots out of the extraction sites!. Any sucking action will do this!. Of course, the smoke itself is not good for a healing extraction site, but the sucking in is what effects the blood clots!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

ahh i just had my wisdom teeth taken out and i was warned about dry socktes!. Your right smoking can be the cause of these, as can, drinking carbonated beverages, and spitting or sucking thru a straw in the first 24 hours!. But they can happen for no particular reason either!. And its any type of smoke!. I smoked weed the day after having min removed and i was fine!. I've heard it can be very painful though and u'd be having to go to the dentist every couple of daysWww@Answer-Health@Com

smoking is one of the highest risk factors in wound healing, tooth socket is a wound,so, smokers got higher tendency of dry socket to happen, this was part of my master degree thesis (bone healing and smoking), all types of tobacco use (even smokless tobacco and sniffing) has the same risk tendency, nicotine in the tobacco is responsible for that, for more detaisl contact meWww@Answer-Health@Com
