I used to wear fixed braces and my orthodontist asked me what colour I would like!. I chose pink!.
However, when I reverted back to the default silver colour, I noticed that my teeth looked dirty!.
In the end you should go with the colour that you think is suitable for you!. What you've mentioned is true and I suggest that you stick with the light colours!.

Right now i have Dark Pink and light pink!. Dark colors don't make your teeth look dirty ( i think they make them look lighter!) Good colours to get for a girl are

All Blues EXCEPT NAVY!
Colours not to go for are YELLOW! EW!! GREEN! AND BROWN! (who would anyway)

Well not all of the dark colors makes your teeth look dirty!. You should chose your favorite color, and if you don't like how it looks, you should think about chosing the silver ones!. Those look really cool and is very shiny!. I hope this helps!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
You should get any color that you think you would look good in!. Whatever you do you should not get clear!. Clear will get stained and it looks like you have bread or something stuck in your teeth!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
I wouldn't get light colour because they show the stains easily and also they look stained even when there not especially the yellow one!. I would go for purple, pinks or blues these colours suit dark hair and blue eyesWww@Answer-Health@Com
Get clear or silver!.!.when i first got braces in i got pink and regretted it!.!.it makes the braces stick out even more and also a lot of the colours stain easy with foods like curry Www@Answer-Health@Com
Get a medium/dark pink - my friend had them & it looked great with her brown hair!. Also, lighter colours fade really easily with braces so say if you got light pink it would fade to nearly white! Www@Answer-Health@Com
