Don't pull it straight down because that is not the way it is going!.
Trying pulling it out with the string up!. That always worked for me!. the only time I ever found it painful was either at the beginning of my period or the end in both cases when there wasn't much flow and it was quite dry!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Well, if it hurts, find a way thats MOST comfortable!. Overall, its not going to be REALLY comfortable, but, find what feels!.!.!.The best I guess!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
