Hi,
Most patients will testify that it dosn't even come close to the post-operative discomfort level of an extraction!. The extraction of teeth is actually still a very crude way of doing surgery!. The only reason we still do it this way, is because we have no other means to remove teeth yet (well certain lasers may change that in the very near future)!. There is always bending of bone and "tearing" of tissues and ligaments involved, when a tooth is extracted!. This is what usually causes the pain and post-operative discomfort!.
Implant surgery is different!. Implants are being placed with water-cooled drills and precision instrumentation!. The procedure itself should be absolutely painless with proper local anesthesia and the post-operative discomfort should be only a fraction of what the extraction caused!. Hope this eased your concerns a little!.

I have dental implants!. I wasn't going to answer after reading the doctor's reply but thought you might like to hear from someone who has them!. I had all my teeth pulled the day I got my implants and they attached my teeth that day too!. The procedure I got was "teeth in a day" I did have pain but it was because I had my teeth pulled too!. It is the removal of the tooth roots that cause the greatest pain!. I felt no pain even though I was awake!. The shots to numb me was no picnic but after wards I felt nothing pain wise!.

After you get your implant you might be sore!. You might even swell!. But after a few days the swelling will go down!. You will feel a strange sensation while the implant is bonding to the bone!. Little tiny zips of pain that will come and leave just as quick!. I was told that this was the bone bonding to the implant!. The sensation is not really bad enough to be called pain!. Just something that makes you go owe!.

You will love your dental implant!. I love mine!. Feel free to write me if you would like a friend!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
