Is it bad if I force my retainer in?!

Question: Is it bad if I force my retainer in!?
For about 4 or 5 years and then I got my retainers but I didn't wear them!. Then I started to wear my bottom ones so I wouldn't lick at my fillings(another long story) but I've tried on my top one once or so about a month ago!? And I eventually got it to go in!. But I still didn't wear it like I should but then I just tried it again and it took more so effort to keep it in!. I have to force my retainer in and kinda run it under warm water!. It hurts really bad!. Is this normal!? I don't really have any money to go back OR get a new retainer OR get braces put back on!.!.!. Help!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
I have worked in a dental office for many years!. Forcing your retainer in will do more harm and no good!. The purpose of a retainer is to keep teeth from shifting once braces come off!. If the retainer doesn't fit, it means teeth have already started shifting!. Wearing it as is (tight) won't move them back, and not wearing one at all will cause teeth to move back almost to the point they were before braces!. (Money wasted!.) You probably do not have to get new ones!. They are made of acrylic, which means they can be adjusted, and the wire part can be bent also!. Go to your dentist, explain the situation, and he can probably grind the retainers down a bit to fit your teeth the way they are now!. Unfortunately, they will not go back to the way they were right after braces came off, but you may be able to keep them as they are now without any more movement!. Good luckWww@Answer-Health@Com
