How do you know if the dentist is an Orthodontist?!
Question: How do you know if the dentist is an Orthodontist!?
Hi there everyone!
How do I know if the particular dentist is a Orthodontist and not just any normal dentist offering braces services!? Is there any qualifications/other things I can look out for to confirm if he/she is a qualified Orthodontist!?

The orthodontist is a specialist!. Comonly a speciality program in university is a master degree, so after his name you should see that:
DDS (dental surgeon)
Msc (master degree)
It does not tell you if he did a specialty though!. so in every country there is an organism which reglement dentist and specialists!.
in Singapore, its the academy of medecine of singapore!.
If the dentist is a specialist he will be a fellow of this academy, so after his name you will see: FAMS
Thus, he a dentist places braces, and after his name you see FAMS, he is an orthodontist!.
Ex:you see written on his card: Dr Ang Poh Kang, DDS, Msc, FAMS
Better yet, go to the website of the academy, youll get a list of the registered ortodontists:

General dentists can take extra courses and provide orthodontic work and not be orthodontists as long as they do not call themselves orthodontists!.
A lot of them are very well qualified and do a really good job!. I have worked for 2 of them!.
Some dentists do not do a good job
Some Orthodontists do not keep up on their training and have fallen behind in their technique and do a poor job!.
The best way to find someone to do your orthodontic work is by word or mouth, so to speak!. Happy patients with beautiful results speak volumes!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
