Can removable retainers fix gaps & protruding teeth?!

Question: Can removable retainers fix gaps & protruding teeth!?
We're migrating next week so we started removing my braces (the FOUR FRONT TEETH ONLY) two days ago!. It was fine when they removed it, but today I noticed that they started to separate and move forward!. I'm scared that those four would go back to their original positions since I would get my retainers 5 days from now!.

My dentist told me the retainers would fix it, but don't retainers JUST retain!?

BTW, before wearing braces my four front teeth were very far apart and protruded!. And, they keep on moving back to their original positions whenever an adjustment was delayed!.

Answers:
In general, retainers as you said, JUST retain!.
My orthodontist told me that between the time you get your braces off and the time you get your retainer, your teeth may move a little bit!. Mine did and with the retainer they've stopped moving but haven't gone back completely straight!.
You should speak to your dentist if your concerned that your teeth are moving too much!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
