Um you dont even have to drink through a straw!. I had braces from 7th grade to 11th grade and i drunk soda without a straw!. It wont damage the braces who told you that!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
I see no reason why you can't do this! I drink coffee through a straw sometimes (caffeine on teeth) and also drink soda through a straw sometimes (do not have braces)!. As long as you keep your teeth clean by brushing and using mouthwash, I see no reason why you shouldn't have a problem with drinking soda through a straw!!!

That is a personal decision!. I suggest not to, as I had braces for the longest time, and I didn't!. Then again, I generally don't drink them anyway!. The reason they don't want you drinking them is because of the sugar content-its harder to brush your teeth and get rid of all of that junky sugar plaque causing stuff!. So if you're awesome with brushing teeth and whatnot, just do it!. Otherwise, don't!.
The thing with gum (randomness I'm adding on) is that it can pull out your brackets too, and that sugar gets way back there!. SO don't chew gum!. xDWww@Answer-Health@Com

You know, I sometimes ask this to my friends(yeah, I miss soda, too, and I have braces) Some of them said that their dentist told them to only drink them once per month!.!.!.so if you're going to drink soft drinks using a straw, don't drink very often either, because chances are that you are still going to get the drink on the glued part of your braces!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I had braces for 3!.5 years and drunk soft drinks!. It is ok if you drink through your straw and remember to brush =] Plus if you are getting them maintained regularly they should not be damaged!. No need to miss out on your favorite cola he he When I got my braces off my teeth were beatiful!.!.!. love them love them love them!!! =]Www@Answer-Health@Com
