Question about a dental hygienist being impatient with you, while cleaning you t!

Question: Question about a dental hygienist being impatient with you, while cleaning you teeth!?
She did not smile and was not friendly in any way!. She brought me to the chair from the waiting room and the first thing she said is 'I am behind schedule'!. Than it was no smiles, just 'Open' 'Close' 'Turn your head, no this way, no this way' while touching my face to direct my movements!. I just thought that she was not a chatty person and I am all for getting in and out of the dentist quick, so I had no complaints with this formal behavior!. Than I thought I heard her sigh a few times when I did not understand her directions!. Sometimes it really hurt and I clenched my toes and stiffened my body and thought I was staying still!. I guess I must have moved my mouth or flinched because every time this happened she said 'Stay still please' in an abrupt professional voice!. At one point she said, 'No open your mouth but don't tighten your muscles here' and she tapped on part of my cheek!. This was confusing to me!. I have to tighten my muscles to open as wide as possible (I have a small mouth and have to stretch really really hard to open enough for most dentists!.) So I tried to keep my muscles from going tight, but than my mouth would not open enough and she said "Open your mouth please" in her voice that did not sound like she meant the please!. Than 'Turn your head'!. "No!. This way"!. I as trying my best to please her and at one point she sprayed the water right down my throat and I started chocking!. Accidents happen I thought!. I thought we had a good routine going!. Open!. Close!. Spit!. So the one time I thought she was removing the hose for me to spit, but she was only moving it and so I spit and it went all over my chin and 'bib'!. I laughed and she just wanted back in my mouth quick as possible!. She went to back in my mouth and instead I turned to her and opened my mouth to talk and she slumped back impatient in her chair!. I said 'You are being short with me and I am doing my best to co-operate'!. She blamed me for moving!. I did something wrong again and she rolled her eyes and kept giving orders!. When she was done she said "I am sorry for 'being short' but you moved alot and you need to stay still'!. My god, even if I was thrashing around, it is her job to be a professional, but I was not thrashing around!. I may have flinched unknowingly!.

The last dental assistant I had before I moved here was so friendly and we had a great time!. She had no complaints with my movements as I got my teeth cleaned and she chatted with me and we laughed and my teeth were cleaned and it was no big deal!.

This dental assistant was impatient with me and ever rolled her eyes!. I think she sighed, but with that mask on I could not tell!. When I saw the dentist he looked at my X-rays and mouth and apparently I have 4 cavities on the outside of my teeth!. Which means that she was cleaning right on my raw cavities!. So I may have flinched when she was on them without knowing it!. That would explain the pain!. After all it is natural to move away from pain, so maybe I did flinch, even though I tried not too, when she was on a cavity!. She said that I was very sensitive, probably because I used to smoke!.

I don't want her to work on my mouth again, but I like my dentist!. Should I complain or move dentist offices!? I like my dentist and his location is great for bringing my kids!. What would you do!?!?!? I don't want her near my mouth again!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

You should talk to the dentist and tell him what happened!. He needs to know about things like this!. You wouldnt want her treating a child like that! I would just tell him what you told us here and tell him that you value what he does for you, but you would prefer not to have your teeth cleaned by that person again!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Tell your Dentist and if another hygienist is available use her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Did you see your dentist afterwards!? You should at least tell him what happened!. I'll bet you weren't the only one she was short with!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

You don't seem to have a problem expressing the way you feel, but the only person that could help in this situation is the Dentist!.
If I were in your shoes I'd speak with the dentist and explain that the hygienist's behavior made you uncomfortable!.
If it happened to you it may have happened to others, and like it or not the dentist has to realize that his business is only as good as the people who represent him!. If there are other complaints against the hygienist, the dentist will realize that he's going to lose business because of her behavior, or have to replace her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Change dentists!. This person is obviously not a very nice person, and they probably wont do a good job with you whilst carrying that attitude!Www@Answer-Health@Com

You have every right to complain to or change your dentist!. I realize that you have tried to understand the situation but you were not considerate to the hygienist!. Its a"cause and effect" thing, you can carry on with your attitude and choices, and so is everybody else including the hygienist!. You just had a bad day to with the hygienist!.
Schedule your next dental appointment to another hygienist at your dentist clinic, or talk to your dentist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The dentist NEEDS to have feedback on his employees! That is so important to him!. I know it's important to us when we hear something good, or bad about ours!.

I would definitely talk to the dentist about your experience! Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com
