Heya Sweetie,
Dental Sealents aka tooth sealents can play an important role in helping to prevent tooth decay in some locations on the teeth!. The Placement of dental sealents involves the dentist bonding a plastic coating into the grooves of his tooth the net result is a smoother tooth surface which is less likely to trap food and plaque and one which is easier to clean with your toothbrush ( very helpful for your situation)!.
Now to give you some more info!.
Which teeth are dental sealents usually placed on!.
Any tooth that has deep grooves, the most common teeth to be sealed is the back teeth
Should sealents always be placed!?
Not all teeth require the protection after an examination your dentist can report to you what they feel is indicated for thomas!.
How long do dental sealents last!?
This can vary any sealents that remain in place for 3-5 years are called a success
Hope i helped and my darling if you have any more worries your dentist can put your mind at rest a ton and help you decide whats best for thomas!.
Take care!

Dental sealants are a wonderful tool to help prevent cavities, but remember they are only one tool!. They are placed on the chewing surfaces of molars (and maybe on the cheek sides if there is a groove) and are only really placed where there is virgin tooth structure that does NOT already have a cavity or only has very slight decay!. They are only placed where there are grooves (we call them pits & fissures) so can only help to prevent cavities in those few places!. They are a coating that helps to keep out bacteria and debris and will last several years, ususally!. This does not help fight cavities in other areas of the mouth!. Other tools to use are: a flouride rinse, regular dental check ups to help minimize damage done by tooth decay, get fillings, have the teeth cleaned, regular brushing - you can potentially help by brushing for your child, wiping with a cloth or store bought tooth 'Brush ups' (slide on your finger to use as a wipe), etc!. The problem is getting a child with autism to either co-operate with you or the dentist in getting these things done or being willing to do it himself!. In any event, seek advise from a dentist, and if Thomas is younger, see a Pedodontist as they are likely most experienced working with special kids like yours!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yeah my little girl is getting them done in a couple of weeks! She is getting the on NHS for free as she is only 6 and registered with an NHS dentist!. They just clean the tooth and then paint on a little solution and dry it with a light!. The whole thing is painless and quite quick! This fills in deep grooves to prevent food becoming stuck and then turning into cavities! They are great for kids and help to stop more involved procedures later! You should definitely ask your dentist about them! They are called fissure sealants - Here is a link with some more info !. Hope this helps xx

You should talk to your dentist but I got sealants when I was a kid and they lasted for about 15 years!. I have abnormally deep grooves and my dentist recommended them because I kept getting cavities!. The sealants definitely stopped/slowed the cavity problem!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi, the best thing to do is to consult a dentist as your son needs permanent dental repairs!. As far as i know there are no home use cures for cavities!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
