How much school you're missing probably depends on how many stages the dentist is doing it in!. I had a root canal in 2 stages this past month (mine was on a molar, though)!. The first stage was NOTHING!. The dentist prescribed me Vicodin and I barely needed it!. That was when they actually took out the root!. The second stage, which I just had this past week, was more difficult!. I probably would've been out of school for two days, but I was out of school anyway because of the hurricane that just hit us!. For me they also had to do the buildup for a crown and I think that was what caused the jaw pain I had!. But the Vicodin eased the pain of it!. Your dentist is likely to prescribe a Vicodin-strength pain killer!. It is very strong!. It will ease the pain, make you loopy (don't drive after taking it) and it'll likely knock you out!. It is safe to take, but only when needed!. I wouldn't worry about getting hooked on Vicodin after only one prescription!. The key is: DON'T TAKE IT IF YOU DON'T NEED IT!! Your dentist is also likely to presribe an anti-biotic to prevent infection!. But again, this may be because I'm having a crown put on!. Different dentists and different dental procedures have different outcomes and different prescriptions!. If you're concerned, discuss the details with your dentist!. He/She will be able to tell you the specifics!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hey there,
I had a root canal in four stages a couple of years ago, and they gave me panadeine forte for the pain!. I didn't take these, though, I kind of got used to the numbness and would take a panadol when I felt that the numbness was wearing off after a root canal session!.
I have a pretty high tolerance to pain though!. I wouldn't worry too much, it's such a relief when it's all over and you get that crown put in!.
You should ask your dentist how many sessions you are going to need, as most do it more than one, and this will tell you how much school you may miss!.
Good luck, I am sure you will be fine - just try to remind yourself that you will have a beautiful smile for a long time after it's done!.!.!.

You probably won't need any pain killers once you have had the root canal!. A doctor won't give you anything that would be addicting!. You shouldn't miss any school at all!. If you need a Tylenol or something, just take it!.
With a root canal, you generally get it done and you are on your way!. Be careful when you eat something, if you have been numbed!. Also!. you may get it done in two appointments!. Either way, there shouldn't be pain except maybe from the needles!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

The doctor will write you a prescription for pain meds!. You might not need them!. But sometimes if you have any infection going on at all you will be in some pain!. when a root canal is done they remove the nerve from the canal of the tooth so you don't have anymore pain associated with that tooth!. however if there has been infection, doing the root canal will stir up or aggravate the infected tissue causing you some pain for the first day!. after that you should be fine!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
