Is there anything to help my 6 year old son stop grinding his teeth in his sleep!

Question: Is there anything to help my 6 year old son stop grinding his teeth in his sleep!?
I know his dad grinds his teeth and sometimes I do!. The sounds wake me up when I do it!. So is it a heredity thing or what!?
But I have heard of those things that football players wear would be good but I really don't think my son would leave it in his mouth and plus it would be too big wouldn't it!?
Any suggestions would be appreciated!.
ThanksWww@Answer-Health@Com

I am a dental hygienist that worked for a pedodontist (children's dentist) and I have had many patients that ask this same question!.
At the age of 6, you should do nothing!. I know that sounds crazy, but a large percentage of children grind their teeth and fortunately, most grow out of it!. You don't need to worry about it until all the primary teeth are lost (baby teeth) and he has all his permanent teeth in!. Around the age of 12 or 13 is when you should consider getting a night guard for him!.
And no, there is nothing you can do to make him stop grinding!. Like i said, it's very common for children do this and "most" grow out of it!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

For people that grind their teeth at night we usually recommend a NiteGuard!. They are custom fit to the patients mouth and are harder to grind through than the guards at the pharmacies!. However, being 6 years old, his mouth is starting to change and it would be a waste of money to get a NiteGuard that is only going to last a few months!. I would get the ones from the pharmacy (you can cut them to fit his mouth) and also put it in warm water and put it in his mouth to mold it to his teeth!. People have a problem wearing them at night until they get used to them!. Once you get used to them, it is hard to sleep without it!. I am not sure if it is hereditary or not, but I do know stress can cause you to grind!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I just went to the dentist today and he suggested a mouth guard!. They shaped it to match your bite and is 100% fda approved!. It costs, however, $572!. A little price but goes well along the way of spending for dental care later!.

I have a similiar problem,I tried the sports mouth guard,it did not work, just got full of saliva!.I would recommend a consultation with a dentist/pediatric dentist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
