Question: Need your help agin please!.(root canal pain)!?
Ok yesterday I asked a question about a pain I was having in my tooth!. Today I called the dentist and had a root canal done on that tooth!. My problem is I still feel the same pain as I did yesterday!. Is this normal!? I haven't started taking my penicillin yet and only taken two of my pain pills!. Should I wait till I have taken all my meds before contacting dentist again!? Next appointment is for the 8th of October!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Your situation will improve with the following :

1!. Of course, you need to finish taking the antibiotics!.

2!. You can take up to 800mg of Ibuprofen / Advil / Motrin at a time every 6 to 8 hours, if needed to reduce any swelling of the nerve!.

Usually, after instrumentation the nerve tissue swells up!. As a result there is an increase in the pressure within the tooth!. Unfortunately, the rigid bone and tooth structure does not allow that pressure to drain by itself!.

That is why you need to take Ibuprofen to reduce that swelling!.

Any other pain medication will only mask the pain and as soon as the effect wears off, the pain will keep on coming back!.

3!. You can also place ice pack on your face corresponding to the area to reduce the swelling and discomfort!.

4!.You don't want to get the RCT finished too soon because you need to make sure you have allowed enough time for the infection to subside!.

Hope this helped :)

Good luck !!Www@Answer-Health@Com

That's sort of normal!. Now that the root canal has been done the ligament around the tooth that keeps it attached to the bone has been irritated, not to mention the infection that was, until yesterday, also causing a problem!. It's normal to have some pain in a badly infected tooth right after a root canal for a while!. Definitely start on the antibiotic if you haven't already!. All the painkillers in the world won't stave off a secondary infection or kill off any infection still in the area!. If in a week you're still experiencing the same pain, yes, call the dentist again!. You should be doing much better by then, tho!. :)Www@Answer-Health@Com

Not a very clear question and don't know your yesterdays question!.
Which Tooth !?
But, root canal treatment, usually takes a few visits, not commonly done in 1 visit!.
After the first visit to your dentist, (xrays & proper diagnosis done) and the I visit, the pain should come down!. (You can give a day or two as sometimes there may be some pain from the procedure itself)
If medication is prescribed , must be taken!. If the 'bum' nerve was removed successfully, you should have no pain after the procedure was started!. Later ofcourse, the dentist fill it up on a more permanent basis!.
If you pain did not subsibed 48 hrs after the I intervention by your dentist, do check with him !
Hope you are OK by now !

It can take time for the pain to subside from a root canal!. As long as the pain does not get worse, I would wait until my appointment on the 8th!. Why are you not taking the penicillin!? I would begin taking that as soon as the doctor ordered you to and take it until it is gone, even if the tooth is feeling better!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

The pain you are facing is normal but if it pains bad then contact the dentist again and follow his prescription and take the pencilin better you take only juices, soft things!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
