Answers:
Yes you do have to have it!. You're a big boy/girl now!.

I had a filling yesterday, for the first time in 24 years (I'm 36)!. So I was pretty much in your position as things have changed so much - and being an adult you get treated differently from being a child!. And there was nobody to take me out for a treat afterwards for being good!

The whole procedure lasted a little under half an hour!. Highlights in terms of sensations were:

1!. Getting an injection - a little painful!. My filling was the sixth tooth counting outwards from the centre, at the bottom, and I had an injection inside my mouth right at the back where the two bits of your jaw meet!.

2!. Getting the second injection when the first one wasn't enough - the area was numb so I didn't feel pain but I swear I "heard" (through my head, not my ears) the needle go through the muscle and the liquid being injected!.

3!. Having someone putting water into my mouth and then using suction to make up for the fact that I couldn't swallow freely!. The feeling that you might be about to choke/drown does set off alarm bells in your head and you have to deliberately relax!.

4!. When they are drilling etc you can feel pressure and various interesting sensations in the more distant parts of your mouth that you can still feel (bits of dead tooth hitting the roof of your mouth, water, air jet etc) but no pain!.

5!. Actually I lie, it did hurt a bit when she went really deep!. But I think I just had deep decay - she said it was right near the pulp and I was lucky not to need root canal treatment!. So with luck yours isn't as bad and you will skip this stage! The pain wasn't like "OMG get it off me get it off me!", it was bearable, but there was always the worry that at any second she'd go past a vital bit and it would suddenly be agony!. But it didn't happen!.

6!. Feeling her shape the filling to my tooth!. This was very weird, as in "interesting"!.

It's not the sort of thing I'd do for fun, but it wasn't like "OMG so horrible I'm never going to the dentist again" or anything!.

When you think about all these people with crap teeth who have to have something done every time they see the dentist, you and I are lucky really!.

As for weirdness, you mean having a complete stranger so close to you!? Just lie back, stare at the ceiling, and think of your motherland!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

If your dentist recommends you to have a filing because it is needed, you must follow!. It is a simple dental procedure were you have an option to have a simple sedation and/or an anesthesia!. Nothing to be worried, if you choose not to have a anesthesia, there is a very little discomfort on the last part of cleaning the caries out (drilling)!. These will be a slight sensitivity on the coldness of the drill's water and air, and a slight friction can be felt on the last part of the drilling!. You may not feel this part if the caries depth on your tooth is ideal!. Just open your mouth and let the dentist care for your teeth!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hi I had a filling yesterday and it wasn't that bad!. The tooth had already been previously filled and a bit had broken off!. The dentist checked my other teeth and put a cotton wool swab on my gum above the tooth then after a couple of minutes he give me an injection and I didn't feel a thing!. He then clean and scraped the rest of my teeth!. After that he drilled the old filling out and I could hear the drill but I didn't feel anything, he then put the bigger blur on to clean the cavity and you could smell burning tooth that was the worst bit!. I then rinsed out, he then put a lining in the cavity and the assistant was there with her sucking pipe, he then set this with his special light, he then put some stuff on my tooth so that the filling would stick better to the enamel, he then put the filling in the tooth and set it with his special light!. He then checked my bite and adjusted the filling, this was a bit uncomfortable but bearable and I didn't feel a thing just the noise of his air tool he was using!. After that I rinsed out and that was it, the anaesthetic wore off after 2!.5 hours!. It is now fine I had a white one to match the colour of my teeth!. Good luck and don't worry about it, but get it done as it will only go worse!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Hiya, You DONT have to have it, It is your choice, if you dont want it, dont have it!. However, the dentist has recommended it for a reason, therefore i woulld follow there advice!. As others have said, its best treating it now with a filling while it is 'fill a'ble!' rather than waiting and requiring a root canel which is painful or having to have it extracted!.

I had a filling in Feb, first in years - hate the dentist, as it was only a small filling, i didnt need an injection, and it was pain-free!. Didnt feel a thing, just felt the friction from the drill and the water but it was over in a couple of minutes!

At the end of the day its you choice! Good Luck! Www@Answer-Health@Com

Oh lord, listen to me! I'm a certified dental assistant here in the U!.S!. I've been doing this for 30 years!. If you have a cavity, and most likely you do, the dentist needs to remove the decayed portion from the tooth and replace it with a 'filling'!. A filling is either made from a silver amalgam material or white tooth colored material!. What he uses will depend on several things: where the cavitiy is, how big it is, etc!. IF they get you numb, it's not that bad, but it can sting!. After that, nothing really hurts, it's just annoying! The noise of the handpiece (drill) is the most annoying!. If it's one cavity and it's not that big, and your dentist is quick, it wont take very long!. He'll get you numb (we dont technically use 'Novacaine' - is a generic term nowadays but he'll use something like it) then he'll remove the decay (with the handpiece and a little tiny drill bit we call a bur) then he'll replace the lost tooth portion with some filling material, adjust the contours of the filling so they are smooth and then you are done!. Sometimes if the cavity is small enough they may ask to try to do it without getting you numb!. It's just noisy, a lot of water, a big ol suction tip to suck up the water and any debris and some hands close to your face!. It's not really fun but it's not that bad either! If you stay perfectly still it'll go faster and if you have a problem or question, raise your hand!. Good luck!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Most likely the dentist will numb you with some Novocaine!. Once you are numb, then they will drill out the rotted part of your tooth, and fill it in so it doesn't decay anymore!. Yes, you need this done!. If you don't have it done, it could decay even more causing horrible pain!. If you let it go too long, they will have to pull it!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

I've had rotten teeth all my life!. Used to going to dentist every couple of weeks for early years!. Now it is just boring!.

Because my Mum persevered all those years ago I now have more filling than teeth but at least I still have teeth!. If you don't go you may end up having it taken out, you won't want that! You will then need an implant which is expensive!

Look forward to it! It is a new experience! You are going to be fascinated! You will be the centre of attraction for 10 minutes!
It doesn't hurt nowadays!. You might have a frozen lip /gum area for a while afterwards!.

Enjoy the trip!Www@Answer-Health@Com

truthfully it doesn't hurt that bad at all!.!.!.!.!.yes you have to have it because if you don't it can actually spread to other teeth, at least that's what my dentist told me!.!.!.!.!.i brought my mp3 player in with me to listen to and take my mind of of it!.!.!.it takes out the sound of the tools, which don't hurt, but it kinda gives you an uncomfortable feeling!.!.!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Lower jaw fillings hurt more than upper, Novocaine shots are not that bad, drink with a straw afterwords and avoid hot/cold drinks for a few hours!. Some dentists offer your choice of music!. Don't pick anything you like - every time you hear it after that, your teeth will hurt!.
Www@Answer-Health@Com

that depends on the extent of the decay!. if its too deep you will have a temporary filling for at least a week!. if its a small cavity with shallow depth, an anesthetic is not administered anymore!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it doesn't really hurt it's just a bit horrible feeling and hearing the drill in action!.

Worth getting it done otherwise you could be in real pain!Www@Answer-Health@Com
