It all depends!. If u have what is called a non-vital tooth (nerve is dead) u don't even need anesthesia and might be given an antibiotic to protect u!. In case the nerve is vital and exposed to the outside then u need anesthesia so that u can get ur work done!. Neither way hurts!. The best is that u don't lose ur tooth but the dentist should tell u that a metal post is needed to reinforce it and then finish it up with a porcelain veneer!. I have had many root canals (not something to brag about I know)!. Mostly they don't hurt, they will numb your mouth real well, and the tooth and gums will be sore for a few days!. They usually give you pain meds, but ibuprofen works good too!. Whatever you do don't put pressure on the tooth for about a week after!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
I had a root canal when I was like 7 or 8 and it doesn't really hurt!. They give you medicine so you can't really feel it!. And then just go get a shake or smoothie and prizes for being so brave!. HAHA!Www@Answer-Health@Com
