Why are dentists allowed to turn people away?!

Question: Why are dentists allowed to turn people away!?
I'm asking this because not long ago I read an article that dentists are charging more money than ever for their services!. However, fewer people can afford care and the number of Americans living with pain and other problems is steadily rising!. They say that your dental health is important to your overall health and well being!. If that's so, why isn't something being done to address this problem!?

You are very correct!. I sure wish I had an answer, but until there is health care reform in this country, I'm afraid there isn't going to be one!.

America doesn't have "health care", it has "sick-care"!. If you show up at the ER, they must treat you if you can pay or not!. BUT, there is no way for low-income families to get care to PREVENT this visit!.
How bass-ackwards is that!?!?!?!?

To "DR H"!.!.!."prevention is cheap"!.!.!.!.not if you live in america, make minimum wage, and live anywhere but the worst dump in town!. And then, if you skip a few meals a week, you MAY be able to afford "Prevention"!. How about some REAL health CARE in the richest nation on Earth!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Technically, doctors can turn people away also!. A plastic surgeon is not going to treat anyone for free!. Hospitals treat life-threatening conditions without securing pay first because it is the law (EMTALA)!. There is no such law for dentists!.
Also, specialist doctors, such as orthopedic surgeons have to be on call periodically to take care of emergency patients in the hospital!. This is often something the hospital requires in order for the doctor to have privileges at the hospital!. Since Dentists work in their own office, nobody can really make them do anything!.
Also, for medical issues, many people have insurance, that helps with the cost!. Less people have dental insurance, so the cost has to come entirely from the patient!.
Most large communities have dental clinics established for low income persons to get care free or at a reduced cost!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

According to the New York Times (link below), the American Dental Association thinks there are plenty of dentists and is blocking the establishment of the practice of dental therapists, who can drill and fill cavities, and extract teeth, just without the full medical degree a dentist has!. The ADA fought the only one in the country (Alaska) all the way through court until they lost!.

Now they're blocking it in the continental US!.

Their solution is to increase Medicaid compensation, which doesn't address the waiting lists, nor does it do anything for the people who make $10 big dollars per hour and therefore don't qualify for Medicaid but also can barely afford food!.

It's demented!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is upsetting, but there are alternatives!. Many dental schools accept patients at cheaper than normal rates for their students to learn on!. If you are willing to have your teeth worked on by someone who is learning, you can go there for much cheaper, sometimes they even offer clinics for free for certain routine stuff!.

My best friend's husband is a dental student and for his board exams, he needed someone with periodontal disease, which my husband has, and my husband was able to get his teeth and gums worked on and two cavities filled for free!.

You just have to do some research on where you can go for such things!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's a mean, cruel world out there for the uninsured!. That's just the way it is!. However, dental care is really not that expensive!. Fillings are fairly cheap, honestly!. Preventive care is much more economical than a root canal or extraction!.
There are discount plans available!.
Also - look for a dental school, they can do stuff cheap!. There's a chain in Georgia called "Affordable Dentures" that also does low cost work, especially extractions!.
People are dying for lack of medical care!. Some people are trying to do something!. !. !. duh!. But no one is succeeding!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

prevention is cheap! if you want great teeth, brush and floss every day!. We are the fixers! We don't put decay in your mouth!. We're not going to call you before you go to bed and tell you to brush your teeth!. in 25 years i never had a cavity or gum disease!.

If you want cheap dentistry, start at home with great home care!. 75% of the things I see at my office are NOT from accidents!. And in 7 years, I've only seen one genetic case of poor enamel!. the other 25% are cosmetic-people making their teether whiter and brighter!. (Once in a blue moon you get the occasional trauma case)!.

you get a free toothbrush and floss every 6 months from your dentist! if you buy your own every 3 months you'll spend less than $20 a YEAR!.

if pts actually did what we told them to do, we would be poor!.

in fact high prices should be a deterrent!!! the first time i got a cavity, my family didn't have insurance and my mom said the filling cost her a week of groceries!. after that she WATCHED me brush my teeth every night!. Never had a cavity since!.

most people know to get an oil change every 3,000 miles or 3 months for their car!. if not you will cause serious damage!. teeth are the same thing!. prevention is key!. noone feels sorry for you if you never got the oil change and your engine is ruined!. and the price is going to be astronomical!. no mechanic is going to offer his services for free!. why should dentists!?!?!?!?

when are people going to own up to their problems!. the sugar monster didn't attack them overnight!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
