Tooth abscess and pregnant?!
Question: Tooth abscess and pregnant!?
I am currently 29 weeks pregnant!. I have at least 2 separate tooth abscesses that my dentist had put me on antibiotics!. also for one of them I had a root canal and he flushed out the area!
However this has been ongoing for over 2 weeks He had put me on the antibiotics again 5 days ago and now the swelling and pain is worse!.
Since it is the weekend I plan on calling my OB who is on call tomorrow!. But after reading about the risks of infection to me and my baby makes me wonder if maybe I should go to the er!. It is currently 1:16 am here! anyone on that has some advice to offer!? thanks! Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
There is no risk for your child with simple dental abscesses!. Only if you started to swell significantly or develop systemic signs would it be of concern!.
Your first choice should ALWAYS be definitive treatment to attack the source of the infection!. This should require either starting an RCT on the teeth, OR extracting them!. RCTs, Xrays, extractions, local anaesthetic are all OK for bub!.
Your second stage is to consider the use of supplementary antibiotics!. Antibiotics should not be relied upon as a first choice, but as a supplement to first choice!.
Pain relief should be acetaminophen, perhaps with codeine!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's good your on antibiotics!.
Sometimes the pain will get worse before it gets better - even with the antibiotics in your system!.
If in doubt - go to the ER!. The stress from the mother's physical pain can be trouble for the fetus!.
Good luck!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
