23 and considering to get braces in a year or so?!

Question: 23 and considering to get braces in a year or so!?
so basically i want to know if its true that you have to get some teeth pulled before your able to get braces or is that a case by case thing!? reason i'm asking is my teeth are fairly straight just some are a TINY bit rotated and i have a little overbite!. also can you request the orthodontist to "max" out the tension on the braces so if can do the job faster or do you have to go every month and let it slowly do its job!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Answers:
1!. The need for pulling teeth depends on how much space is needed to realign the teeth and that varies from case to case!.

a ) Sometimes you need 4 teeth (2 in the top and 2 in the bottom) removed!.

b) If less space is required, it can only 2 teeth (top or bottom) that need to be taken out

c) Then again, some do not need to get any tooth taken out at all!.

So, it will depend on how the teeth need to be shifted around!.

It is hard to tell without taking a look at your records (x-rays, and models)!.

2!. You SHOULD NOT ask the Orthodontist to "maximize" the force!.

a) The way braces work is that when on one side pressure is applied, it results in bone loss!. This creates the scope for the tooth to shift!.

b) At the same time, the opposite side gets subjected to a little bit of tension!.

c) The time is allowed between the adjustments to allow for bone formation on this side of traction!.

d) Little force is also applied to make sure the amount of bone loss DOES NOT exceed the amount of bone formation!.

e) If you do it TOO SOON or with TOO MUCH FORCE, there will be TOO MUCH IRREVERSIBLE BONE LOSS and you may end up losing some teeth!.

Patience is a virtue :)

So, you are right, you have to go every month and let it slowly do its job!.

Good luck !!Www@Answer-Health@Com

It isn't a sure thing!. I didn't have any teeth pulled!. It was mentioned as an option but I chose not to!. Instead they're skinnying my teeth up a bit as needed - basically filing them down on the sides to make a little more room!.

It just depends on your own teeth!.

No, you can't make them go any faster!. They take as long as they take!. I have heard of a new procedure that makes it go faster but it sounds gruesome!. You have minor surgery beforehand to loosen up your gums (something like that)!. And that makes them move faster!. My dentist told me about it!. I thought it sounded awful!.

I have heard that the Damon 3's work faster than traditional ones!.

I had to go where my insurance took me so I didn't get deeply into how fast they could go, but I do remember reading that about the D3's!.

EDIT: I never heard that about bone loss!. But it makes sense!. I have braces now because my lower teeth began pushing on an upper tooth which allegedly caused bone loss and that's why I had a bone graft!. I never really put the two things together, but I understand now!Www@Answer-Health@Com
