Is it normal to get 16 x-rays in one dentist visit?!
Question: Is it normal to get 16 x-rays in one dentist visit!?
Answers:
Yup! That's called a full mouth series or FMX, and there's up to 19 radiographs (xrays) in each one!. It's for when the dentist wants a look at your whole mouth, so xrays are taken of each group of teeth (called periapical radiographs) and for the in-between spaces as well, where the cavities are impossible to see just by looking in the mouth (called bitewing radiographs!.)
Most patients get an FMX about every 5 years, though some dentists take one for every brand new patient, even if they've just had one recently!.
And they can be pretty pricey! Usually around $100 at a private dentist or $30 at a dental school!.
Since you got one, just keep a copy with you in case you switch dentists so you don't have to get another for a few years!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

4 bitewings
15 periapicals
Total 19 x-rays aka Full Mouth Series (FMS)
5-10 dollars per x-ray taken!. 90 dollars for a FMS!. This is a ball park just to give you an idea!.
It's normal, if your dentist is new or if the insurance company wants an FMS to evaulate treatment plan submitted to them!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

look "full mouth x-ray" or "FMX indications"!.
Provides greatest image resolution for dental and periodontal evaluation!.
A FMX is appropriate when the patient presents with generalized dental disease or a history or extensive previous dental work!.
