Some patients adjust faster than others to wearing a palatal expander!. There is usually some discomfort for several days and every time the expander is cranked; taking an Ibuprofen will help to alleviate this discomfort much better than Tylenol!. Patients have a tendency to salivate more due to the new appliance, which is normal!. They also have a difficult time with speaking; the tongue will adjust to the appliance given time!. Another common problem is adjusting to eating and swallowing; avoiding breads or any food that will stick to the roof of the mouth and cutting up foods taking very small bites will help!. Soups, pasta and easily swallowed foods for awhile will help her to adjust faster!. Also eating ice cream or smoothies the first few days will help decrease the discomfort or pressure of the appliance, The cold will help numb the mouth and palate making the pressure of the appliance deactivate for awhile!. She will get use to the appliance, just give her time, empathy and lots of encouragement!

As for her cheerleading practice that night, I would leave going up to her!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

She will probably not be comfortable enough to go to practice!. I had one of those when I was younger and it was quite painful and uncomfortable for about a week!. Give her tylenol before she goes to the dentist today!.!.!.that may help! :)Www@Answer-Health@Com
