Answers:
Ask your orthodontist!.
In the office I work in, we give them to our patients because we do NOT want you to use a molded mouth guard!. They don't allow your teeth to move!.
The ones we use come in several colors, or clear!. A lot of our team players match their uniforms to the mouth guard to make it fun!.
Anyway, your mom is right!. You should wear a mouth guard during any potential contact sport!.

You can find all kinds of mouth-guards that are thin and/or clear!. Try your local chemist or pharmacy!. Also, have a look at your local sports stores for various types of mouth-guards!. Don't worry about it bulging out of your mouth, at least you are protected from accidents that could potentially happen!.

Here is an article about mouth-guards and how important it is to wear them, especially when competing in sport!.

the orthodontist that put your braces on should have a mouth guard or be able to recommend a brand!. i am assuming that you have braces on both your top and bottom teeth!. i personally never wore a mouth guard for basketball but i did for football and i wore won that had a guard for both the top and bottom teeth!. it was big, but not excessively!. I have had braces for a looong time about 5 years now (i skip tooo many appointments) and im a boy/guy/male so you can imagine how rough some males get and i've never had a problem with my braces!. Tell your mom not to worry having braces is no different than not having them; when it comes to sports!. IF you get hit in the mouth, with or without braces, its still going to hurt!.

One thing is for sure!.!.!.avoid fist fights cuz it hasn't happend to me but i've heard countless times about people with braces ending up in the hospital because they got their lip eff'd up due to a fist fight!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I definately suggest a mouth guard!. I was at softball practice my 8th grade year and we were doing drills in the gym!. I turned to talk to someone next to me and my partner across the gym threw the ball even though I wasnt looking and i turned just in time to get the softball right in my mouth!.

Braces went through my lips!.!.!. Also with cheerleading and basketball!.

I was on the Basket Ball team, and got hit Numerous times in the mouth area!. I also have braces so my teeth are straight as heck and I never even owned a mouthgaurd!. Therefore they are bulky and Ugly!.!. So I didn't ever need one!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It will be fine!
Mouthguards are smart to have!.
Imagine getting hit in the mouth and your braces cutting up your mouth!.
