Answers:
Well, I just had mine removed on Monday!. I can't say what they feel like when they're coming in because they removed mine before they came in!.

The surgery isn't all that bad!. As long as you follow all the directions the dentist gives you, you should be fine!. You'll get a pretty hefty pain reliever that helps a ton!. My advice is to keep ice packs on your face most of the day when you come home from the surgery; only take them off for 30 minute breaks or so every now and then!. I say that because if you swell up bad the next day, that's when it'll REALLY hurt!. If you swell up at all the next day, start using hot packs!.

Eat REAL food after the surgery, don't try to live on pudding and jello because it'll make you feel bad and you'll heal slower!. Just cut your normal food into tiny pieces!. Also, my dentist didn't tell me this, but avoid carbonated drinks because they can make the blood clot dissolve!.

In short: Yes it hurts, but it's not as bad as some people make it out to be!. It basically feels like having something stuck in your gums for a week!. It's not horrible in-the-floor-crying type of pain!. On a scale of 1 to 10!.!.!. I'd give it a 4!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

it hurt because the teeth are cutting through your gums!. like when babies are teething!. it is only some discomfort!. it only really hurts when you don't have space in your mouth and they get impacted and puss forms under the gums!. (yeah i know gross, think about how i felt) getting them removed didn't hurt me (possibly because i was asleep) but the recovery where i looked like a hamster for about a week was a bit off putting!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

I didn't think my wisdom teeth hurt me until i got them removed then I realized that they actually had hurt but i just adapted to it!. But getting them out wasn't as bad as anybody told me, like it wasn't tons of fun or anything!. But if you have to get them our make sure to put tons of ice on and start the pain meds before it hurts because then you never feel it hurting!Www@Answer-Health@Com

I'm sorry, but I tend to ramble sometimes, so my answer might be long!.!.!.

Ok!.!.!. I'm going to tell you the whole story, start to finish!.!.!.

About 1 1/2 years ago, my two bottom wisdom teeth came in a little bit - just the lower half was showing!. I thought "no big deal," but after a few visits with my dentist, and not having them come out and further, he told me that they were impacted and would never come out (impacted means that there is not enough room for the tooth to come out, so it either a)!. stays under the gum b)!. comes out a little but the rest stays under the gum, or c)!. rubs up against another tooth and cannot come out properly)!. Great!.

The worst part was my top left tooth came out about 2 months ago!. It came out all the way, but the problem was that it came out angled towards my cheek!. Imagine this: my top and lower wisdom teeth were both rubbing up against the side of my cheek, so every time I chewed, it filed away at my cheek!. So now my little cheek cells were thinning!. Now imagine this: where the teeth met when I chewed, there was a gap!. So it compacted my cheek in the middle!. Therefore, I had a layer of thin cheek, followed by a thick line of cheek, and then another layer of thin cheek!. This hurt so much!. And you know how it feels when you accidentally bit you cheek while eating!? Well, my wisdom teeth "accidentally" bit down HARD on my cheek at least 3 times every meal!. This issue with my poor cheek, as well as feeling minor headaches and toothaches from time to time, made me decide to go to the dentist to talk about my wisdom teeth!.

My dentist told me that the lower two would never come in!. The issue there is that if you have a tooth covered in loose gum, bacteria can easily enter in that space and result in an infection!. He's really funny though!. He drew me the steps of what my wisdom teeth were going to do to me if I didn't get them out!. First he wrote my name, then drew an arrow pointing down to teeth infected, then his name/ 911, then teeth removed, then a smiley face!. He basically explained that because wisdom teeth can cause painful future complications, it would be best to remove them now, while I wasn't in pain yet!. Alright, I agreed!.

I scheduled the surgery to be in 1 week (Friday, Oct!. 3)!. I spent the whole week looking at yahoo answers and any other website that talked about wisdom teeth (I list some of the websites and the bottom)!. All week, I bugged my classmates about wisdom teeth!. I kept asking about what do they do, does it hurt, how long does it take to recover, etc!. Here's what I got:
1)!. It won't hurt! First, they give you a numbing shot, then some laughing gas, and then an IV!. You'll sleep the surgery away!.
2)!. Dude! The laughing gas is the best part! Your whole body slowly feels cold and you lose sensation everywhere!. Then you feel like you're floating and you're so happy!. The doctors ask you questions and you just giggle!. I was sitting in the chair thinking "yippee, my arms are floating" and I opened my eyes and looked down and thought "oh, no they're not!." You'll be fine!.
3)!. I don't remember anything!. By I didn't feel pain afterwards, and the meds they give you afterwards are awesome!.

Alright, so those were the basically the top 3 responses I got from my classmates!. I felt much better, until I called the day before to see what I would need to do to prepare myself for the "surgery!."

The lady at the desk said, "I'm sorry, we don't have any IVs or laughing gas!. You'll get a series of numbing shots, but it'll be okay!. Just bring an iPod and don't look up at the mirror!." I thanked her and hung up!. I just about cried!!! I was going to feel and remember everything!. When I told my classmates at school the next day, they put their hands on their mouths and started freaking out!. Everyone knows that I'm a weakling (as in I can't lift more than like 40 pounds) and they all got really worried!. Everyone said they'd all been put to sleep, except for one girl who was awake but had laughing gas, so she didn't remember!. So then I started freaking out because my appointment was in 4 hours!. I panicked all the way to the office!. I got there, and was immediately brought in!.

Here's about "the surgery":
I sat down in the chair, and they asked me how I was doing and stuff!. I flat out said that I'm a weakling when it comes to pain and that I was scared!. He said okay, but that he and his assistant would treat me very well (I've known my dentist since I was 4 and he's awesome, so I was really comfortable that he was doing the operation!. I also knew his assistant well, so I knew I was in good hands)!. Before they gave me the shots, I said, "I have one request: can I please keep any wisdom teeth that are intact!?" He said yes, and I sat back so he could give me the shots!.

First, he rubbed a q-tip like swab with numbing gel!. Then he gave me 4 shots: one around each wisdom tooth!. I could still feel the tingle as he put the needle in, and it took him a good 15 seconds toslowly drain in the anaesthesia!. He then gave me another round of 4 shots!. I remember tears falling down my cheeks because those kind of hurt!. I can't remember if I got a third set or not, because I was so stressed out at the beginning!. He left the room for about 10 minutes!. In the meantime, I started listening to my sister's iPod!. When he came back, it started!.

He took a knife and cut a thin line on the gum above my wisdom tooth (or at least I think so, that's what they did on the YouTube video - which I definitely should NOT have watched)!. I could feel the pressure of the knife, but not any actual pain!. I guess he sawed carefully around me tooth, and then came this huge pliers!. He tugged and pulled, back and forth, until finally it came out!. One down, three to go!.
The first tooth took about 5 minutes!. While he's cutting and pulling the teeth, the assistant carefully sucked it up or added some water!. After a tooth was removed, the dentist added a big gob of gauze onto the hole and told me to bite down hard!. The last tooth, for some reason, hurt a lot, so he actually had to add another injection and wait for it to get numb!. It took he three attempts before my tooth was numb enough for it to come out!. Of the 4 teeth I had removed, I only had to get stitches on one of them, and they're dissolvable, so I don't have to go back!. The funny thing is that as he was just pulling out the last tooth, the last song on the playlist was playing!. It was perfectly timed to the last part of the song, "Little Wonders" by Rob Thomas:

Let it go
Let it roll right off your shoulder,
Don't you know!?
The hardest part is over!.
Let it in!.
Let you clarity define you,
In the end,
We will only just remember how it feels!.

Oh! Such perfect timing for this whole thing!. I showed the assistant the lyrics that were playing and she laughed!. So I hugged my dentist, because I couldn't thank him (my mouth was so numb that I could produce any understandable words!. During the whole surgery, and for an hour or two after I got home, I could only grunt and point)!. So I went home with my mouth stuffed with gauze, a package full of gauze, some instructions on how to care for yourself after the surgery, and my little blue box with my wisdom teeth (two of them had the roots curled upwards, which is bad because removing them is extra hard, and the other two had the roots all fused together, an abnormality that actually makes them easier to remove)!.

I tried to sleep, but I couldn't, so I just sat in my room and listened to music!. My dentist prescribed me some generic Vicodin (hydrocodone, I think), and it took a while for it to take effect, but it's working now!. My mouth bled for about 8 hours after the surgery, and I had to change gauze at least every half hour!. I eventually ran out and used tea bags, because there's an herb in it that helps forma clot!. You need to bite down hard because firm pressure over a long time helps form the clot (I found that out at a website)!. I have huge cheeks to begin with, and now they're even bigger!. I literally look like a chipmunk!. You're not going to believe what I did to help the swelling: a boy at school said that when his girlfriend had her wisdom teeth pulled, she could get the ice bags to stay on her cheeks, so took a bra, put the bags in the cups, and tied it around her head!. At first I thought he was crazy, but I actually tried it (now I've publicly humiliated myself) and it worked!!! Last night, I ate vanilla pudding, and that was it!. I'm actually eating some more right now!.

Some tips: Don't suck through a straw (and if you do smoke, then don't!)!. Sucking actions might dislodge the blood clot in your holes, which will give you dry socket!. Your mouth will stink and you'll feel horrible pain if you get it!. Don't drink soda, or anything warm/hot, since it could also melt the clot!. Don't stick your tongue in the holes either!. That's gross, and it could dislodge the clot!.
Try to eat soft foods for the first few days, and don't eat rice, I've heard people say it easily gets stuck in the holes!.
When you want to sleep, make sure your head is elevated!. If it's not, it puts too much stress to your head and will cause even more bleeding!. I slept with my head on top of 3 pillows last night!.
Don't rinse your mouth on the first day (same day as operation)!. The next day, rinse out you mouth every 3-4 hours with warm water and salt, and after every meal!.
Take Tylenol or Advil for pain, or any other med the doctor might prescribe you!.
Don't brush you teeth the night after your surgery!. At least wait until the morning!.
That's pretty much it!. Congrats if you read all this!!! Hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com
