8 year old getting tooth pulled! Help!?!

Question: 8 year old getting tooth pulled! Help!!?
My daughter has to have the tooth next to her canine tooth pulled!. The tooth is dead and has caused an abcess!. I was told that putting her out to do the procedure would cost $300!.00, and that Nitrous is only $75!. I don't have the extra $300 right now, but I don't want my daughter terrified of the dentist for the rest of her life!. How traumatic is this for kids!? Please help, I'm really concerned about this!. Answers:
first of all you must explain to your child what is gonna happen!.
1!. the Dr!. is gonna rub some jelly on her tooth to make it numb
2!. then the Dr!. will place a medicine in the tooth so that the extraction won' hurt (don't use words like needle or shot)
3!. the Dr!. is gonna wiggle the tooth until it comes out, but it won't hurt, she is just going to feel like pressure!.

You should really invest in Nitrous, it will make her really relax and take away any anxiety she may have and it will be out of her system by the time she leaves the office!. Good Luck to both of you!. it really isn't that badWww@Answer-Health@Com

If you're worked up, chances are your kid may get worked up as well!. Settle down!. I'm assuming its a baby tooth!. If that's the case then its no big deal!. Children can do this without sedation!. Yes even without the nitrous!. Show a relaxed manner and confidence in your dental provider!. I recommend that you do not go back with her!. Stay in the waiting area!. In some offices this is the policy anyway!. If you insist then please do yourself and your child a favor by saying as little as possible!. You might go with the nitrous as long as she'll agree to keep it on, she'll get good and relaxed!. But most kids don't need it!. Everything will be fine!. If we're dealing with a permanent tooth, (I hope not) then you may consider sedating her, but unless she absolutely will not cooperate and in a lot of pain, sedation is a bit overkill and is riskier with children!. And just to be clear, the nitrous doesnt put her out, just takes the edge off!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

That depends on what the child's perception of the dentist is and the gentleness of the dentist!. I am a dentist and have removed hundreds of teeth on children with just local anesthetic!. If your daughter likes your dentist and he or she has a good reputation in the community for being gentle and good with kids then go for the nitrous only!. Knocking her out for the removal of one tooth is overkill in my opinion and the risks outweigh the benefits!. Ask your dentist if he can also prescribe her a sedative to help relax her!. Vistaril 25mg works well in scared children for me!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Putting her out!? I am no dentist, I question that you have to put them out, I could see using valium orally to lessen anxiety!.

After she recovers, and heals be certain she is encouraged to use dental floss (a thin type like butler can easily get in between teeth), and brush!. Rinsing the mouth with water when a brush is not available can wash out the food and sugar after a meal or snack!.

The most important time to brush and floss is just before going to bed, so that the saliva can remineralize the teeth and the food is not rotting out between the teeth making acids that eat away at the enamal!.

Another isssue is that removing a baby tooth rather than just letting it grow out makes the next tooth that comes in at risk of comming out crooked!. I visited a dentist as a teen and he pulled two loose teeth out (for free), but he really should have let them go out on their own!. I learned this fact the hard way!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

It's not wether she'll be terrified for the rest of her life!. A dead tooth with an abcess is bad!. If the dentist says it has to come out, then it it's going to come!.
As far as your daughter being traumatized goes!.!.!.the best thing to do is be with her through the whole process if you can!. Don't get nervous and flustered or she'll get scared!. If you're completely in control of your outward emotions, it'll make her feel like the extraction is just another procedure and that everthing is in control!.
Trust your instincts as a parent, and trust the expertise of the dentist!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

you dont have to put her out she is 8 shes not a little kid there are some things to factor in here though!.

one is she going to a family dentist or a pediatric dentist this does matter she needs to go to a pediatric dentist the asst and dr are prepared some family dentists are not!. two if the tooth is dead there is no reason to knock her out with the nitrous and novacain she wont feel anything but pressure and itll be over before she can even react pulling two teeth with the dr i work for takes about a minute if done correctly after she is numb dont spend the money she'll be fine and when she goes back for her check up shell for get she even had the tooth removed

im 14 and i was really scared the time they pulled my tooth about a year ago!. I just didnt think about it and let them numb it with the shot!. I just trusted the doctors that they knew what they are doing!. tell her that after she gets it done you will take her for some ice cream! tell her it doesnt hurt at all once they numb it!. u can feel a thing!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

my daughter is 9 and has had teeth pulled, she didnt cry, she stated it was nothing major!. She actually took it better than some adults I have seen going thorugh teeth extractions!. Just advise her that the dentist is here to help her, not hurt her mouth!

Knock the kid out, by gas for the procedure -- if its allowed or advisable for children!. Don't make her be conscious for it!. Poor thing!.
