Top & Bottom teeth touch with retainers?!

Question: Top & Bottom teeth touch with retainers!?
I just got my retainers yesterday and it's the clear plastic kinds!. I have one question and it may be a dumb one!. I'm new at these retainer stuff!.

Are the top and bottom teeth supposed to touch with the clear plastic retainers!? Every time I bite down, it wouldn't go down fully!. It has a big gab!. I'm afraid if I leave it like that, it will create a gap when i close my mouth!.

Please be respectful and answer it!. Thanks so much!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Don't worry it's fine I had the same problem!. Then I got my wire retainer!

Congrats on getting braces off! =)Www@Answer-Health@Com

i have the top and bottom clear retainers too, and when i first got them the back teeth only touched, but since ive had them for so long now it completely closes and touches all my teeth, you shouldnt worry just try it out and if u dont feel comfertable go back to your orthodontist!.!.!. from my experience my teeth are still straight and pearly whitesWww@Answer-Health@Com

if you just got your braces off and got those retainers my teeth did that too at first but i have regular metal retainers but my teeth eventually went to the top teeth over the bottom the way that they should!. give it like maybe a week a little more and they'll shift into place so keep the retainers on!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

do you mean that the retainer keeps your teeth from being as close together as they used to be when you bit down!?
that happens when your retainer is tightened and when braces get tightened sometimes!.

like, you bite down and your top + bottom teeth feel far apart !?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Many orthos don't like the clear type because it doesn't let the molars settle or touch!. They don't like it for people that were treated for open biteWww@Answer-Health@Com

No it is not supposed to touch!. The retainer is in the way of both touching so don't worry! I had retainers a month ago!. It's fineWww@Answer-Health@Com
