While you are rinsing for 30 seconds (with the Listerine in your mouth) is when you are killing the bacteria!. As long as you do that I don't see why it should be a problem to have water after!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

Yes!. Listerine doesn't do much anyway!. When you say "effective" it depends on what you are hoping it will accomplish!. Listerine will kill germs and keep your breath a little fresher but doesn't really help against cavities or stuff like that!.

In fact, if you are swishing with listerine after brushing, you are probably rinsing away the flouride that is left between your teeth from the toothpaste!. This flouride was more benificial to your teeth than the listerine is!. On top of that, if you are using listerine that contains alcohol, it will dry your mouth out a little which contributes to cavity formation

I'm finishing dental school and I have never had a single teacher or class promoting any type of mouthwash!. Not that mouthwash is bad to use or anything like that, it's just that it's not really effective for anything!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

After holding it for 30 seconds, spit it out, then wait for the burning to stop!. When it stops, it has killed all the germs!. If you put water in your mouth right after you spit it out, you are taking the germ killing chemicals with it, which will not work as well!.Www@Answer-Health@Com

STOP using Listerine, people!

My dentist told me to stop using it because the alcohol content is too high and it causes cancer of the mouth! Www@Answer-Health@Com

It is best to spit only to leave the residue that will give the best effect!.Www@Answer-Health@Com
