Swollen cheek and gums?!

Question: Swollen cheek and gums!?
This morning when I woke up my cheek was very tender and sore!. Through out the day my cheek began getting swollen and now it's very noticeable!. My gums barely hurt on the inside of my mouth!.

My boyfriend felt my cheek and could feel a knot under my skin!. I don't really know what's going on; it's not my teeth, I know for a fact!. The surrounding areas of my teeth don't hurt at all!.

I can't find information on WebMD!. What's going on!?Www@Answer-Health@Com

Sounds like it very well could be an abscessed tooth and the infection may have spread to the gum and facial tissue (cheek)!.

I'd advise you NOT to read everything on dental abscesses!. I unfortunatley did, and let mine go, because there was NO pain at all!.

One morning, I woke up- same as you, check swollen gums swollen, but no pain!. No pain near my teeth at all!.

next day, same thing!. No pain, and because of my huge fear of dentists, i still didn't go near one, or even think about making an appointment!.

Third day, swelling had gotten so bad that my mouth I couldn't open to eat or drink!.

I had to book an appointment with the dentist!.

When I got there, the next day (as an emergency appointment) I'd gone to the hospital and had xrays done, and was already on a course of antibiotics (when i'd made the appointment, they couldn't fit me in that day- so I needed to get the antibiotics then, and start them straight away before comming in)!.

He looked at the xrays, noted that there were three abscesses (periapical), and although they weren't hurting, they were very advanced!.

- The main problem (a single abscess) was creating the swelling in gums, neck and cheek as the infection had spread!.
There was no pain- which is quite common, despite most of what you read- saying it kills!
(Don't ever be fooled by what you read)!.
The abscess had infact started to eat away the bone in my jaw, and he told me the fact was- that had i left it a day longer, i would've been in hospital in ICU with blood posioning!.

He told me a good way to feel wether you have an abscess, is if you have a 'knot' under your skin along your jaw line, or in between the line of your jaw and teeth- you can feel this by pressing against your cheek!.

He told me that ANY swelling is a very serious sign that there's a fair amount of infection there, and You MUST MUST MUST get it seen to!.

Definatley don't wait!.

Despite no pain in teeth, Swelling is the sign that says infection has begun to spread!.

When you ring the dentist, to make an appointment, make sure you TELL them what's going on, and what symptoms you have- and they should make you an emergency appointment they might ask you to get xrays done, and get a script for antibiotics (amoxycillin 500mg)!.

I had to have that tooth immediatley extracted, then and there, and the abscess drained- as it was no longer just in the root of the tooth, but in the section of jaw that had been eaten away!. It took two courses of antibiotics and plenty of rest for it to totally clear, and I have had 10 trips to the dentist in less than two months for check ups and other treatment on other teeth !.

Remember = swelling = serious!.

See a dentist asap!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
