Generally it takes about a week for the initial swelling to go down, depending on how big the gauge was that you chose!. (I believe next to your eye, the mouth has the fastest healing process because of all the nutrients blood carries to it)!.

Every once in a while after my tongue was peirced I would experience a little swelling or discomfort!. As long as you're not tasting or smellling a foul odor, and there isn't a yellow-greenish film on your tongue I wouldn't suspect an infection neccessarily!. I would lay off using too much mouth wash, like Listerine, as it kills the good bacteria along with the bad and can cause you to have a yeast infection in your mouth!.

If I'm remembering correctly, it took me a couple weeks to begin talking normallly, so I imagine that was due to the fact my tongue was still slightly swollen!. It also took a little while for my mouth to make room for it!. I had an indention in the roof of my mouth where the ball would sit pressing up against it!. After the swelling goes down, the studio should provide you with a shorter bar to replace the bar you currently have!. (They probably told you that they put in a longer bar to accomodate for the swelling!.)

If you're not already, find some non-iodized sea salt and mix it with luke warm water and rinse morning, before bed and after you eat when possible!. Non-iodized sea salt works wonders on just about anything!. You can pick that up at your local grocery store!.

I would recommend calling the studio where you had the peircing done as well!. If they didn't already, ask if they can provide you with anything to help with the healing process!. A good studio usually gives you information and materials to take home in case you have any questions or concerns!.

I hope this helps!Www@Answer-Health@Com

Piercings stay swollen for a while, especially bigger ones like tongue piercings!. Just stick with it!. If it doesn't go down after another few weeks, maybe you should ask your piercer or doctor!.

And remember to get a new, shorter barbell once the swelling subsides!. You don't want one that's too long - you can break a tooth pretty easily if you bite the bead!.

If it doesn't hurt and there's no discharge, it's probably not infected, so good on you for taking care of it!Www@Answer-Health@Com
