I think my daughter has an under bite! Dental help?!

Question: I think my daughter has an under bite! Dental help!?

My daughter who is 18 months old has what i think is an under bite she only has 4 teeth on the bottom (her 2 front bottom teeth and 2 molars) but has a full mouth of teeth on the top and her bottom teeth overlap her top teeth is there any chance this will go away when she gets her adult teeth or will she have this forever!? do i need to take her to a dentist now or is there no point !?

Any answers would be much appreciated

At 18 Months old, there is not much to do except wait and see how she grows!. Most likely though, she will have the same bite as she grows!. In dentistry terms, this type of bite is called a class III occlusion!. Just start taking her to the regular dentist at age 3 or so for regular cleanings and check ups!. They can let you know when to take her to an orthodontist!. Most orthodonists recommend for you to bring a child for a consult at age 7!. This doesn't mean they will do treatment then, but they will sometimes start with expanders and such to help with jaw problems around age 8 or so!. The younger they start, the better the teeth will turn out!. and less chances of needing teeth extracted to make room and such!. They like to work with the mouth while it is growing when there is jaw/bite problems!. Www@Answer-Health@Com

Ideally the upper front teeth should cover the lower front teeth!. If the lower front teeth are overlapping the upper front teeth then it means that the mandibular growth is more so you should consult the dentist at this stage only!. You should contact a pedodontist who are chilren specalist who can tell only after examinining the child!. For knowing more on children dentistry you can read the following article!.

I had a crossbite when I was a kid!. Don't take her to the dentist now, but when she's a bit older you will need to if it hasn't gone away (I don't think it will)!. The dentist had me wear bands on my braces to pull my jaw back, as well as head gear at nightnime!. It really was no fun, but very, very worth it!. Www@Answer-Health@Com
